Verona, Wisconsin is a town in Green County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The first European settlement in what is now Verona was made by Dr. Nicholas-Jacques Rousseau on July 17, 1810 as a fur trading post on the Gammon River. In 1834, Verona became part of the newly created Green County and remained so until its merger with Milwaukee into the city of Milwaukee in 1998. The town started off as a series of small settlements along streams that ran through it such as the Gammon River and Whitefish Creek. By 1880, there were over 150 residents living in Verona Township and 12 businesses had been organized including two stores and one blacksmith shop. The townsite was platted on March 5, 1881 by Jens Rasmussen with land set aside for a public school and town hall which would be located on Main Street today. Rasmussen also donated land to build what is now the baseball stadium which opened in 1935 named "Verona Park". In 1892 came a major change to Verona when Gustavus Adolphus Wright moved to the community from Waukesha and purchased 4 acres (1 hectare) of upland where he built his home called Wrightwood which still stands today across from Main Street courthouse Annexes A & B
