A small town located in the heart of Lake Superior County,Wisconsin was home to a number of gunsmiths and rifle manufacturers. One such company was Wm. Ladd & Sons Ammunition Co.,which manufactured pistols and rifles under the name “Bolt Action Rifle Ammunition”. The company was founded by William Ladd (1784-1857) and his brother James Ladd (1787-1864). In 1825, Wm.Ladd & Sons entered into a partnership with Isaac Chandler & Bros., which produced cannon ball cartridge cases that were designed for use with muzzle loading guns and pistols. In 1827, Samuel Colt began manufacturing firearms in Verona using Wm.Ladd cartridges as ammunition. Colt’s first firearms were pistols which used this type of ammunition. Cannonball round cases made from lead or bronze were imported into the United States from Great Britain in 1828 as part of a treaty between England and France during the Napoleonic Wars. These rounds became known as French Cartridge No 1 because they were originally used by French artillery crews operating inside France during the War of 1812

Verona, Wisconsin is a small town located in the town of Greenfield, WI on the banks of the Fox River. The population was 1,642 at the 2000 census. The first European settlers in what is now Verona were French Catholic refugees from France who arrived in 1792. They founded a mission to serve the native Ojibwe people and built a church and school on the site of today's Verona Elementary School. In 1836, when Wisconsin became an organized state, Verona was included within Greenfield Township and remained so until 1959 when it seceded to form its own municipality. In 1840, Reverend A.L. Hinton came to Verona from Rome with his wife Sarah and their five children Charity (born 1837), Christopher (1839-1927), Augustus (1841-1922), Eliza (1843-1925) and Alphonse (1845-1924). Reverend Hinton had been pastor of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Rome for several years before moving to Greenfield where he established himself as a teacher and minister of education. He soon realized that schooling was an essential part of Americanization for Indian students who would be future farmers and businessmen like himself. So he started teaching English lessons to Native Americans living among white settlers while also working on founding a school for them based upon his principles of universal education which he preached across North America during this time period. In 1846 Reverend Hinton married Jane McDermott who had come over with her father from Ireland two years earlier as part of General John Custer's cavalry unit during the American Civil War. Jane's parents had emigrated from County Cork, Ireland around 1795; her grandfather being one Timothy Farrell who settled near Racine, WI in 1800 along with his three brothers Patrick Farrell (1787-1800), Denis Farrell (1789-1854) and Terence Farrell (1792-1864). Her mother's parents were Catherine McAuley alias Brienne whose family immigrated in 1793 from County Sligo,Ireland under nominal pressure by British forces following Louisbourg’s capture by British forces 5 months prior which led to Queen Anne’s proclamation calling for all Irish Catholics registered with her government to leave their homes within 7 days or face summary execution including those families not carrying arms or owning property beyond what could be carried off without such condemnation their entire lives henceforth regardless whether they were Protestants or Catholics even if they did not overtly practice any religion other than going about their common everyday tasks like getting milk for their six cows or taking care of home repairs etcetera; however most did manage some level or religious observance albeit privately typically only visiting services at 2pm on Sundays due to fear reprisal should they show up too early outside these limited hours) . Today there are numerous businesses located throughout downtown including: Applebee's restaurant opened its doors in 1984; KFC since 1957; Verizon Wireless store opened its doors in 1988; First Wisconsin Bank open its doors in 1989; Food Lion since 1991; Noodle Hut since 1997;; Tim Horton's restaurants since 1999;; Pie 'n Pies since 2002;; Dairy Queen open its doors in 2003;; Best Buy opened its doors starting business operations August 15th 2005;; Jiffy Lube open its doors starting business operations February 14th 2004.. Additionally there are numerous homes located throughout downtown including: The White House Bed & Breakfast originally operated out of Republic Hotel & Casino where President George Washington stayed during his stay between visits to Philadelphia & Yorktown.; Mrs Lincoln spent one night here between stays at Germantown Mansion& Mount Vernon mansion also operated by Mrs Lincoln); Brown Palace Hotel closed down completelyAugust 21st 2006 but portions remaining have been converted into apartments known now as VERONA Commons development.; exterior walls surrounding original building remain standing despite substantial damage done subsequent fire/storm events resulting primarily Due To climate change changes associated with increasing frequency/ severity extremes rather than natural disasters

Verona was founded in 1847 by Nicholas L. Giese and his wife, Julia C. Giese. The town served as the capital of Crawford County from 1851 to 1855, when it was moved to Sacramento. It returned to Verona in 1861. The first store operated in 1851-52 on what is now Main Street. A post office was established in 1862, and remained in operation until 1898. In 1865, the town became the county seat of Crawford County; it remained so until 1908 when it was moved to Milwaukee. The population of Verona increased rapidly during the mid-19th century due to the agricultural production of sugar beets and other crops along the Fox River valley west of town. By 1870, there were over 100 inhabitants living in Verona proper and a further 350 people residing within a radius of 10 miles (16 km).
