Two Rivers is a small town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the right bank of the Richelieu River. The population was 2,799 at the 2010 census. It is part of Racine County and is bordered by Brown County to the north, Manitowoc County to the east, and Kenosha County to the south. The village of Two Rivers was founded in 1836 by John Sutter and his brother-in-law David Mixson as a post office near what is now Green Bay. The first store in Two Rivers was opened in 1841 by James Hickey. In 1851, two brothers named Seymour bought land adjacent to what is now Main Street and built a house on it which became known as "The Seymour House". They were succeeded by their nephews John Hickey and William Seymour who continue to live there today. In 1862, Oneida county voters passed an ordinance providing for voting areas within Racine County instead of just Racine Village where they then lived combined with Menomonee Falls Township (now Marinette) formed from parts of Milwaukee and Washington counties respectively. This gave Two Rivers more autonomy than any other village within that area; one vote did not count towards village status however it still helped secure its position as Racine's second largest community after Prairie du Chien. In 1880, when Wisconsin became a US state, Two Rivers voted overwhelmingly against annexation into Milwaukee because they felt that would have resulted in less representation for them within the new state government – this despite being well situated next to Milwaukee proper on both sides of the river. To this day residents maintain close ties with their former home state - many attend events related to school projects or volunteer work with local organizations such as American Cancer Society or United Way - but also maintain strong ties with Racine which has always been their main support system culturally and economically speaking (although they do occasionally donate goods/services).
