Two Rivers is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the south shore of the Menominee River. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The name Two Rivers comes from two forks of the Menominee River: One flowed east to west and was called "the big fork", while the other flowed north-south and was called "the little fork". From these forks grew Two Rivers Township and its villages: Riverside, New Berlin, Hegewisch, Waukesha, Mount Pleasant, Mukwonago, Brookfield and West Allis. The first settler in what is now Two Rivers Township was James Haskins in 1837. The town site was surveyed by Nathan Doane in 1839 and named after George Washington's home state of Virginia (now West Virginia). In 1843, John Fenton purchased 4 acres (1 km²) of land at present-day Main Street and Hegewisch Road for $100 cash which he donated to the township. Fenton named his new community "Two Rivers" because both forks of the Menominee River were near it at that time. In 1845–46 Daniel Webster built a dam over the Bigfork Fork to power a sawmill on his farm northeast of present day Riverside Village; this mill continued operation until 1953 when it closed due to lack of demand fromriver boat passengers Instead using waterpower for Generation III turbines which are still operational today . The name stuck around as One rivers incorporated into Two Rivers Township even though there has never been a village or hamlet located at that location! Two Rivers is a town in Racine County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–West Allis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Two Rivers was John Haggerty who founded a cabin on the north side of the river in 1836. A post office was established at Two Rivers in 1839, and remained in operation until 1907. In 1847, the village of Two Rivers was organized as a town under the name of "Racine". The name change came about because two rivers running through it were given different namesakes - one being called "Wisconsin" and another "Racine". The initial plat for Two Rivers included land that would later form Racine. On July 5, 1852, voters approved a $25,000 budget to build a water main from White Earth Creek south to Racine Avenue. This project finally began construction in 1861 and became completed just before Christmas that year. The town's first store opened its doors on December 12, 1861; this store was built by contractors Wirtz and Smith. The first white child born in Two Rivers was Caroline Potter on December 22nd; she was one of three children born to parents George Potter (a furrier) and Mary Ann Haggerty (née Cook). The growth of Two Rivers led to incorporation as a city on November 3rd 1912 with an all-white municipal council made up of thirteen men from Racine County only! In 1932 however due to high population numbers (2,536) two wards were created within Oneida Township making it difficult for raconteurs like myself to follow what really happened during those years... so here I am writing this after all these years! After much discussion between both sides residents voted down incorporation into Oneida Township again which left them with only Three rivers left - River Rouge(north), River Tomahawk(south), & River Twin Arrows(west). So citizens once again had their hands full trying to keep their little community alive while other more important things got done around town like getting new schools built or getting streetlights put up
Two Rivers was first established in 1847 as the town of Hudson. The name was changed to Two Rivers in 1851 and then again to Two Rivers in 1857. On July 12, 1861, the town of Two Rivers became a city.
