Two Rivers is a small town in the northwestern corner of Wisconsin, United States. It is located on the west bank of the Missouri River, about 25 miles (40 km) northwest of Milwaukee. The name was given to the two rivers which flow through Two Rivers - known as the Big and Little Rives - in 1838 by General James K. Polk during his presidency as part of a land deal with the Potawatomi Nation. The first settlers in Two Rivers were Methodist missionaries who arrived in 1836. They built a log cabin and started a small mercantile business. In 1840, they erected a large frame courthouse and presidencies building that still stands today. In 1865, Two Rivers became one of twelve villages consolidated into the city of Milwaukee under Mayor John Jahnke. This period saw significant economic growth for Two Rivers; developers constructed hotels, stores, churches, schools and other infrastructure. However, many residents struggled during this time period due toaristorial problems such as poverty, lack of education and job opportunities outside of agriculture or manufacturing. In 1938 President Franklin D Roosevelt designated Two Rivers as an experimental area for fair housing because it had been difficult for African Americans to obtain equitable access to property ownership or housing within white neighborhoods at that time. This led to notable redevelopment efforts over ensuing years; in 1984–85 two blocks east of downtown Menomonee Falls were renamed "Two Rivers Avenue" in commemoration of this effort. The city opened its first community center in 1966 and has since developed several additional properties including One Park rd., which served as home to both Menomonee Falls Community College campus until 2018 when it relocated to University Park across from State Fairgrounds As Wisconsin's largest city expanded rapidly into rural areas during the late 20th century- especially around Menomonee Falls- so too did concerns about race relations within Two Bridges'. A number Black leaders formed an alliance called 'The Brotherhood' with similar objectives but different tactics aimed at gaining social justice within local communities while avoiding confrontation with white supremacists . In response local law enforcement responded with escalated violence against black protestors throughout the 1970s-'80s.
Two Rivers was a small, isolated farming community in the western part of Wisconsin. It was founded by John and Elizabeth Hoadley in 1854. The couple named their community after the two largest rivers in their area, the Menomonee and Milwaukee Rivers. The Hoadleys were farmers who grew corn, wheat, beans, potatoes, and other crops. They also raised chickens and cows. In 1870, Two Rivers had a population of about 50 people. By 1920, it had declined to about 10 people. However, it continued to be a rural community until the late 20th century.
