Sussex is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the east side of the Fox River within the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The population was 14,554 at the 2010 census. Sussex was founded in 1836 by Peter and Rebecca Ladd as part of a land grant to John Goodrich and his wife, Mary Wohlgemuth. The first post office opened in 1838. Sussex has been governed by a three-member board since 1906, when it became an unincorporated community under Wisconsin law. The town is home to two colleges: UW–Extension and University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. This design featured an elongated metal container that was inserted into one end of the barrel and screwed onto both ends resulting in stable placement of both optics and accessories along with increased accuracy when shooting handguns. In 1938, Winchester introduced their own type of scope mount known as the "Winchester Model 70". This design consisted of four legs that were connected by a U-joint assembly. The history of expandable mounts dates back to the early 1900s when a variety of devices, such as revolving turrets and telescopic sights, were used in combat. In 1911, an American company, The Browning Company, released an article called "The Practical Mount for Rifle", which proposed using a rotating turret on a rifle to increase accuracy. This idea was quickly accepted by military commanders and became known as the " rotate-and-fire" mount. By World War I, the use of extensible mounts had become common in both infantry and artillery units.
The history of Sussex, Wisconsin is long and varied. The community was founded in 1854 by John C. Frisbie as a Methodist Episcopal church settlement near the current town of Sussex. The community grew rapidly, and by 1881 it had a population of 1,500 people. In 1907, the village became an incorporated town. In 1916, the United States Congress passed the National Defense Appropriations Act which authorized the construction of a new airfield in Sussex County. This led to significant growth at the local level within Sussex over the next few decades. In 1948, Sussex amalgamated with neighboring townships to form what is now known as Milton Township. During this time, however, there were continuing tensions between these two communities over issues such as land use and zoning changes. These tensions eventually came to a head in 1972 when a fire destroyed part of Brighton Elementary School; this caused significant protests from residents in Sussex who felt that their community was being threatened by outsiders. Despite these protests, however, Sussex continued to grow economically during this time; by 1984 it had reached its present size with a population of around 11,000 people. Throughout its history, Sussex has been heavily involved in both political and cultural aspects of American life; today it remains one of the most diverse communities in Wisconsin metropolitan area. For example, according to 2010 census data, approximately 60% of its residents are either born or have ancestry from outside America (primarily Europe). Additionally, since 2000 Sussex has become home to several major technology companies including Apple Inc., Amazon Web Services Inc., IBM Corporation and Microsoft Corporation among others .surrounding cities have seen similar growth rates but continue to struggle with poverty and crime rates which often surpass those found within their own neighborhoods
On October 15, 1873, the first train pulled into Sussex after a journey of more than 150 miles. The railroad was built to connect Milwaukee with Chicago and other eastern cities.
