Sussex is a town in Door County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Racine–Kenosha–Waukesha metropolitan area. The first white settlers came to Sussex in 1836 and started a farming community on the east side of the Koshkonkonk River. They named their community "Sussex" after their home county, England. In 1857, they built the first post office in Door County and by 1865 had a school, church and store. In 1876, they established a lumber company that became one of the largest in Wisconsin. The village of Sussex was incorporated as a city in 1907. In 1916, members of the Methodist Church founded Sussex Technical College which became an all-women's institution known as Sussex University in 1922. In 2006, it merged with Wisconsin State University to form WSU-Cyber Campus Southeast which continues to provide online education for students statewide (including Sussex).

Sussex, Wisconsin is a town in Douglas County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. Sussex was platted in 1855. It is named for theSussex family of immigrants who settled there in the late 1840s. The first post office in Sussex was established in 1851. The town became a village in 1907 and then a town in 1959. It held its election to become a city on April 24, 2013, but declined due to lack of annexation votes from other towns within the county. On November 2nd of that year it became an unincorporated community once again following a decision by the Douglas County Board of Supervisors to not annex it into the larger city limits as planned. The population of Sussex has since decreased significantly with no new residents moving into town since 2013
The town of Sussex was platted in 1835 by James K. Polk and his father, President James K. Polk. The town was named for the county in which it was located, Sussex County. It became a city in 1910 and a village in 1920. In 1935, the city of Sussex merged with the villages of Sheffield and West Allis to form the town of Sussex-Sheffield merger. On November 1, 2013, the town of Sussex merged with the city of West Allis to form the new City ofWestAllis
