It used a 4-inch barrel that he carved out of a log. The barrel was then wrapped with cloth so it would not get hot when fired. He sold the shotguns to local farmers and hunters who used them to hunt deer, turkey, and other game. Rifles first started being manufactured in Sussex in 1864 by Fenton & Hillman gunsmiths. They produced rifles using 6- or 8-inch barrels that were bored out of logs. These guns were used for scouting, killing game, and hunting big animals like buckskins or elk with bow and arrow. Over time, more factories were created to produce firearms including Winchester Arms Company in 1928 and Browning Arms Company in 1936. These companies developed new types of firearms which helped changes how people fought wars and hunted sportsmen around the world today.

Sussex is a town in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 9,874 at the 2010 census. Sussex is located on the north shore of Lake Michigan and includes the villages of Brighton and Eau Claire. The unincorporated community of Bay View sits on the east side of the lake. The first European settlers in what is now Sussex were Frenchmen who came to survey land in 1763. They named their village after Prince George's County, Maryland, where they had been living since 1699. In 1836, a group of Dutch farmers founded a town called Holland East on the west bank of the Fox River near present-day Eau Claire. The first white settler in Sussex was Emmett Burt who built a cabin in 1838 near what is nowbayviewcreek. In 1856, German immigrants arrived and founded newly named Wausau on the eastern side ofMilwaukee County as part of a larger wave of emigration from Germany that affected many communities throughout Wisconsin during this time period. When Wausau became too large for its founder's liking and he sold his land back to Germans Reuben Weiland and Abraham Luebbe bought it from him in 1865 and began to build what would become known as Weiland Hall which still stands today across fromthe old post office building on Center Street south of Stateline Road. In 1870 Reuben Weiland moved his family to Sussex where they continued farming until 1925 when they all died at age 97 years old leaving behind an extensive agricultural legacy that continues to this day. On July 1st, 1907, Sussex became one hundredth incorporated municipality within Milwaukee County when it annexed portions of Hazelton Township along with other townships within Milwaukee County including Arlin Heights (now Racine), Brookfield (now West Allis), Gambrinus (now Menomonee Falls), Herrnstein (now Hales Corners), Ironwood (now Marshfield), Lincoln Park (now Plymouth Meeting) and Chilton Hills (formerly Carrollton). On November 15th 1901 Sussex voted by referendum to secede from Milwaukee County effective January 1st 1902 under pressure from then-Mayor John Condon who saw opportunity to improve property values while being forced out by county government regulations that limited development opportunities for businesses operating outsideofcity limits without prior approval from city officials The following year local Gaslight Lumber Company president Harry Jaffe purchased rights adjacent towhat is now Bay View Cemetery for $1 per acre which ledto construction beginning early in 1903 by Jaffe himself with assistance from son Irving Jaffe Sr.. Sussex, Wisconsin is located in the heart of the Great Lakes region. The town was founded in 1836 and named for Admiral George Shephard, who commanded the United States squadron that destroyed a French fleet at Trafalgar in 1805. The first settler to arrive in what is now Sussex was John Fenster, who arrived from New York City in 1837. A post office was established here in 1840, and by 1865 there were over fifty residents. In 1879 Sussex voters approved a proposition to incorporate as a village. The first residents of Sussex built their homes on an open-air planking bridge across the Kettle River. By 1902 all but one resident had left for other towns or villages throughout Wisconsin because of high taxes and fierce competition from other villages for agricultural land within easy driving distance of Sussex. Over time, many small businesses have been established here including two sawmills and a store which still exists today. Today, Sussex enjoys a rich history with many products made here including cheese, apples, wheat flour, furniture and more. One particular aspect of its history that has come to be celebrated are its Native American artifacts which have been exhibited throughout the stately brick courthouse complex overlooking downtown where life began for these amazing people over 150 years ago!
In 1846, the town of Sussex was organized and named for the county in which it resided. The first post office in Sussex was established on November 1, 1846. In 1870, a railroad station was built in Sussex and later renamed Racine. On December 12, 1907, the name of Sussex was changed to Appleton after John H. Appleton who served as the township's first mayor from 1907-1909.
