The first targets were set up on a hill near the present day intersection of State Highway 5 and County Road P in 1848. There were limited resources at that time so it was not easy to find somebody who wanted to shoot at targets. In 1868, the first permanent target stand was erected in Superior by Wm. Kapp and Sons. This stand remained in operation until 1966 when it was replaced by a new one which still stands today. From 1870-1876, Fenton & Henschel manufactured Shooting Target Holder models A (pictured), B (pictured), C, D, etc., for use at local fairs and tournaments. They also made an enlargement plate for use with traditional size rifles (not pictured). In 1876-1877, Prentice Manufacturing Company produced Shooting Target Holders model E for sale at local insurance firms and other businesses. This company ceased operations in 1917 but their products are still being used today as target holders from various companies around the country

The first post office was established in 1857 and remained open until 1903. In 1873, a school became operational and remains in operation today as Superior Junior-Senior High School. In 1886, a canal was constructed through Superior NP to provide water available for farming near West Allis. This Provided economic stability to the town as well as development opportunities which led to more businesses opening up and people moving into Superior over time; this has helped form what is now known as "the Friendly Village." There are many churches located in Superior including: Christ Church (1854), Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1922), Our Lady of Peace Parish (1964), St John's Lutheran Church (1994), Holy Cross Catholic Parish (2008), Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Parish (2011) and Mount Carmel Lutheran Church (2012). There are also several recreational facilities such as: playgrounds for children, tennis courts/Racquetball Courts/Basketball Courts/Golf Course, baseball diamonds/football fields/, golf courses/,ashairstreaming operations/, campgrounds/, boat ramps/.

By 1900, Superior had a population of over 2,000 people. In 1914, the city merged with the neighboring towns of West Allis and Northfield to form one consolidated city called Milwaukee.
