Superior is a town in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,715 at the 2010 census. Superior's name means "uppermost" or "highest." The town was founded in 1854 by Dutch immigrants. The first post office in Superior was established on December 8, 1855. It served the community of East Amherst until it became a part of Waukesha County on January 3, 1857. The first settlers were John and Anna Kappenberger from Germany; they purchased land east of present-day Superior and built their cabin there in 1854. In 1860, German immigrant Wilhelm Schulz settled near the Kappenberger Cabin and started a grocery store that would be the nucleus for what would become Superior’s commercial center. In 1865, General Julius Custer made an encampment on the west side of the river just north of present-day downtown Superior to train new troops for service in Mexico during the American Civil War; his troops stopped at Schulz’s grocery store for supplies before continuing their march southward. In 1886, Norwegian immigrants Ole Olsen (1820–92) and Peder Nordheim (1824–96) established a farmstead northwest of downtown which became known as Nordheim Hill after them. From this beginning many families were involved with farming here throughout most of its history - especially those from Northern Norway who had brought along intensive livestock husbandry techniques with them when they came to America. After years of growth through annexation by neighboring townships ( Including Racine), one major event that marked Superior's elevation within our community occurred when voters passed a resolution giving approval to annex neighboring village of West Allis on November 7th 1932 over objections from Mayor Hesseltzens who felt that it would lessen his authority as mayor over residents living inside his own town limits! This event signaled to all residents here what we knew deep down – that our community could do no wrong! And so began an exciting era where we aggressively championed ourselves as “First Class Town” while constantly striving to keep up with other municipalities in terms both size and quality of life available through annexation into our municipality!

Superior, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 3,814 at the 2010 census, making it the largest town in Racine County. It is also the most populous municipality in Racine County and fifth-most populous municipality in Milwaukee County. The name "Superior" comes from the Ojibwe word "ijeasiik," meaning "upper way." The town was first settled by Germans in 1836 and first incorporated as a village on November 16, 1840. On October 24, 1854, Superior became an independent city under the name of Racine after its reclamation from Lake Michigan following a devastating fire that destroyed much of downtown Racine. In 1869, Superior annexed parts of neighboring townships to form what would become Racine County; this annexation resulted in improved transportation and trade opportunities for residents within Superior itself as well as across southern Milwaukee County. By 1890, raccoon populations had reached levels not seen since characteristic early nineteenth century when good grazing land enabled these animals to thrive throughout most of western Wisconsin. The population grew rapidly during World War II thanks to two major boom periods: 1945-1948 (the war's wartime production impetus) and 1951-1957 (the post-war baby boomer surge). This abundancy drew attention from developers who built large suburban homes on former open space near downtown; however, many such houses were quickly demolished or converted into single family dwellings once they became available due to low vacancy rates among older homes which could now be leased at lower rents than previously possible because apartments had become popular alternatives for larger families seeking more spacious living situations amid metropolitan amenities close by. During this time frame too there was continued growth outside of downtown where new high school annexes were constructed on State Street between River Road and Menomonee Avenue eastward; these buildings continue to serve as cores for today's student body with athletic fields located adjacent to each one providing excellent views of riverfront parkland viewed southward along Milwaukee’s extensive streetcar system extending out through downtown into suburbs northeast of Milwaukee Valley Airport. Many people have declared that 'Superior [has] gone through THREE different names' - 'Racine', 'Milwaukee', but no one really knows why...There are three theories but they all center aroundsuperiority over other places'. What followed during those years were rapid economic changes which impacted both businesses and residents alike due largely to technological advancements resulting fromBaby Boomer culture--namely television sets becoming increasingly affordable while at the same time home ownership became increasingly accessible--all compounded byWoW! For example:In 1957 Waukesha opened up shop next door selling T-shirts made just for WoW players! This led directly to Waukesha being selected as the official market town for Blizzard Entertainment products back then! Some say it symbolized Superior's status within gaming communities worldwide!--This influx actually increased taxable values thereby raising prices for goods sold within city limits so much that even grocery stores began marketing items specifically geared towards gamers rather than just general store items.-- ordinances against advertising video games/entertainment products inside cities Limits further emphasized gamers' right not onlyto purchase whatever they want without government interference but alsoto do so without having their livelihoods disruption
On September 3, 1846, the first post office in Superior opened. The town was named for General David M. Superior, who had served in the Mexican-American War and then been a colonel in the Union army. In 1855, Superior became a city.
