Superior, Wisconsin is a town in the Milwaukee metropolitan area located on the south side of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. The population was 21,301 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota–Wiscasset–Fremont, New York City micropolitan area. Superior occupies an east-west trending valley that forms the lower edge of Lake Superior and its longitude is -87.14°N (0°W). The community was platted in 1855 by citizens of Green Bay who desired to be near that city's new railroad depot. The name "Superior" was chosen because it appeared on a map as one of several communities near Green Bay then under construction by the Milwaukee Road Company. The first settler in Superior was James Clements who arrived in 1856 and built a cabin on what is now State Highway 152 near the present day intersection of US Highway 45 and State Highway 12A (now US Highways 2 and 45). By 1860, other pioneers had located there also including John Meeks (1862), Peter Clausen (1864), George Sorensen (1868), David Snively (1870), Jacob Riemer (1872), Julius Bendix (1874) and Martin Kappeler (1876). In 1870, Isaac Engle purchased 640 acres from Daniel Burnham for $5 per acre which included land between current day State Highway 12A and Northwestern Avenue which he used for grazing his cattle until he sold them to Abraham Lincoln for $4 per head during his presidency. In 1881, Gustavus Wirth founded Chippewa Falls Manufacturing Company which manufactures farm machinery including buggies, wagons and tractors using water power from Chippewa Falls Dam on Lake Michigan while still employing 60 workers at its factory site today where they produce farm equipment such as tractors and combine harvesters among other items. In 1905 Wirth merged with two other companies forming United Industries Company which manufactured radios, televisions and autos including Plymouth Motor Car Corporation’s first carillon bellows truck Model A1 prototype shown at the Chicago Auto Show in December 1903 before production began January 1904 at their facility on West Side Drive north of downtown Chicago; this plant also produced Henry Ford’s Model T chassis #2B from 1908 through 1915 In 1945 Superior's post office closed due to World War II military service postal closures being initiated by then Postmaster General Robert Wood Johnson In 1955 Superior absorbed portions of neighboring towns Cheshire Township to the westward along with Racine Village to its southeastward for a total population increase reaching 26 residents when those municipalities amalgamated . On April 15th following that incorporation date all residents within Superior were given voting rights becoming part of a township government comprising 5 wards or "sections". On November 3rd 1959 voters approved referendum ordnance number 6994 proposing creation/establishment Of A Board Of Supervisors To Govern And Operate The municipality consisting Of 5 Ward Commissioners With authority To Appoint Certain Officers Other Than Mayor AndCouncilman

Superior, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 5,835 at the 2010 census. It is located in the Badger State Capitol District and part of the Wausau metropolitan area. Superior was platted in 1847 as a village on land that now forms part of Milwaukee County. The name "Superior" came from its location at an altitude of 4,000 feet (1,200 m). The first post office for Superior was established in 1852. The village had no bank and received its supplies from trading posts along the Minnesota River. In 1855, Superior became a town when it voted to incorporate under the laws ofWisconsin Territory. A fire destroyed most of the town's buildings in 1861, but it soon rebuilt with private donations and government sponsorship. In 1886, voters approved annexation by Milwaukee County; this led to the nickname "The Twin Cities." In 1896, Superior became one of only two towns in Wisconsin to be granted a charter as an special purpose district governed by its own board of trustees instead of county commissioners; this helped make it easier for businesses to get permits and avoid county taxes. The first Supervisors were chosen through staggered elections held every five years and continued until 1978 when term limits made it impossible for any individual to serve more than four terms without running into political trouble. On July 1st 1902, Superior merged with other towns within Milwaukee County called Racine (to form what would eventually become Racine/Superior Township), Ashland (to form just Ashland Township), West Allis (to form justWest Allis Township), La Crosse (to form just La Crosse Township), Menomonee Falls (to form justMenomonee Falls Township) and Oak Creek(to form justOak Creek Township). This merger increased local government control over education which was then used to fund public works projects such as roads and bridges while also decreasing taxation rates on businesses within each township so they could keep more money for themselves instead of paying taxes both locally and to Milwaukee County which then went back onto the citizens’ tax bills - much like how our current system works today! Superior has been known ever since as being one big happy family!
Superior was founded in 1854 by the men who founded the town of Superior, Wisconsin. The town was named for General David Dixon, who fought in the Mexican-American War and was then elected governor of Wisconsin. The men who founded Superior were white supremacists and later became known as the "Dixon boys." They wanted to create a white enclave in an area that is now part of Milwaukee. The town's first school was built in 1855. In 1870, Superior joined the city of Milwaukee.
