Superior is a town in Green Bay, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 4,239 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous town in Green Bay County after West Allis. The first settlers to the area near present-day Superior were two families who came overland from Minnesota in 1841. They called their new land "Eagle Lake." In 1847, a group of men and boys from Chippewa Falls founded the town of Superior on what is now east side of U.S. Highway 46. The name originated with Capt. Samuel Augustus Preble, an American Revolutionary War veteran and fur trader who had named a stream after himself (Preble's Lakes). In 1849, when the railroads were built through Green Bay County, Superior saw its first railroad train stop: at East Road Station on Milwaukee Rd., about one mile west of present-day Superior City limits. At that time it was only a small hamlet with about 20 residents around three stores and one hotel which served travelers travelling between Milwaukee and Green Bay via US Highway 46 and US Highway 732 (now US 45). The towns of Racine and West Allis grew up around Superior soon after; Racine because of its close proximity to Waukesha County for trade with surrounding agricultural communities; and West Allis due to its location as the county seat for Green Bay County (the original county seat located northeast of downtown). In 1911, voters in both towns decided to annex neighboring Winnebago Township so that they could form one municipality under the name "Superior." The annexation was approved by voters in 1912; however, no construction ever took place as Winnebago Township declined to join until 1974 when it became part of Appleton city proper pursuant to then-state legislation approving consolidation within cities/towns across Wisconsin following passage of the State Constitution Revision Act No. 3 (also known as "The Briggs Amendment"). Prior to this date, all municipalities within Green Bay County were subject to state regulation through regulation by local government officials rather than by state government itself which led some observers to refer to Superior as an 'Independent City.' A vehicle dealership called Ford Motor Co.(later GM) opened its doors in 1918 on Main Street just east of town center - giving rise local legend that General Motors streetcars regularly visited town during BusinessWeek travel season for maintenance purposes or for advertising purposes before traveling back out onto I-94 northbound towards Oshkosh or Waukesha en route home from Chicago (the cars would often make a loop course around town before returning east again). This story has been variously reported as being based on historical reality or simply bootleglore perpetuated by people who enjoy mischiefmaking. Although no evidence existssupporting either account - like many other legendary stories found throughout southeastern Wisconsin - it's still something that locals enjoy telling visitors about! Today there are several vintage GM vehicles parked offshoot streets near downtown while another large used car lot operates just south off Interstate 94 adjacent thereto....

Superior, Wisconsin is a small town in the central part of the state of Wisconsin. The population was 792 at the 2010 census. It is located near Green Bay and on Lake Superior. The name "Superior" is derived from French for "uppermost". In 1836, General James K. Polk sent a military expedition to search for a new land route to California. Heading north from Sturgis, Nebraska, his party arrived in Superior on October 12th and began their journey up the river. A detachment of soldiers under Colonel John Ransom continued upstream while Polk's main body reached Superior on November 3rd after four days' travel. They camped at the mouth of Clear Creek until November 8th when they moved upriver again and encamped at present-day Wabasha Rapids. On November 10th, General Polk called an all-night council with his officers to consider whether he should advance farther upriver or return home immediately as supplies were running low. His advisers decided that he should continue but circle back around via Wabasha Rapids so that they could get more supplies before returning downstream to Sturgis. OnNovember 16th they again met with Colonel Ransom and discussed their next step which was to establish another outpost at present-day Marquette Island in order to maintain communications between Milwaukee and Washington Territory (the future United States). OnNovember 23rd General Polk ordered his men forward once more across Clear Creek but this time they encountered resistance from Native Americans who had been waiting for them down stream ambush style; three men were killed, eight wounded and two missing along with Captain Edward Pemberton who led the attack upon these Indians). This action marked the first successful white invasion of Indian country in Northwestern Wisconsin since 1812 when US troops burned Chief White's village near modern day Green Bay
Superior was founded in 1851 by the Knights of Columbus. The town was named for General James K. Polk, who had won the American Civil War and became president of the United States. The town moved from a site on the east side of Green Bay to its current location on the west side in 1858.
