Superior is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census, making it the largest town in Racine County.[1] It is also one of the most populous towns in Milwaukee County. The first Europeans to vision and glimpse what would become Superior were French traders on their way from Green Bay to la Crosse in 1673. They called this place "Isabelle", after Isabel de Champlain's ship MV François II that stopped there en route from Quebec to explore Lake Michigan and its potential as an outlet for India trade. The name stuck, and today Superior serves as a municipal seat for Racine County. The Town of Superior was organized on December 1, 1836 by act of the Wisconsin General Assembly.[2][3] The town site lay within present-day Racine and Waukesha counties but was chosen because it had rail access and good soil for farming – qualities which continue to be important factors in its development today. The first settler arrived in 1837 and by 1840, when the railroad reached Superior, about 100 people lived there:[4] Most were farmers who bought land east of US 38 nearpresent-day Merton; however some residents bought land west of US 38 (now part of Menomonee Falls). In 1863, a post office was established at Superior with six mailbags per week[5] and by 1865 all but one post office had been discontinued due to high population growth rates within Racine County – including those located in now-defunct villages like White Bird Country or Indian Head Prairie[6]. In 1892, construction began on Racine–Milwaukee Railroad Extension which extended south from Milwaukee into western WI via De Pere Junction then down Highway 12 through Menomonee Falls into eastern WI past Waukesha county before terminating at Marquette Junction just north of present-day West Allis where trains continued east towards Chicago until they were discontinued in 1922[7]. This extension brought many new settlers into Superior who founded village sites around downtown such as Apple Valley,[8], White Bird Country,[9], Indian Head Prairie,[10],[11],[12],[13],[14],[15], Beech Grove,[16],[17] Hennepin Park,[18], Einarson Manor[19], Bear Creek Manor[20],[21] etc.; many still live there today despite suburbanization over the last several decades! While rail transportation continues to play an important role both economically and socially throughout much of northwestern Wisconsin (and beyond), it is also clear that automobiles have come to play a larger role as well: traffic congestion has resulted not only from growing populations but also from recent expansions into adjacent townships through annexation or purchase by neighboring municipalities; this has caused significant inconvenience for residents trying to get around town since shopping centers have opened up close by while other amenities like libraries have closed down! A $100 million project sponsored by Governor Scott Walker which will improve infrastructure throughout Northwestern Wisconsin should help alleviate some these problems though!

Superior is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the shores of Lake Superior. The population was 1,419 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay–Stout–Beloit, WI Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to reach Superior were French colonists who arrived in 1641 and named it La Chaudière for Jean-Baptiste Chaudière, Sieur de la Ronde's aide-de-camp during his long journey from Quebec to visit the Great Lakes region. The area now known as Superior was hunted by the Ojibwe Confederacy until 1824 and then by fur traders until 1779 when British settlers began arriving in what is now Superior Township. Jesuit missionaries founded a mission here in 1793 and name it after Saint Ignatius (Ignatius Loyola). The first town meeting occurred on October 30, 1800; however, it was not until 1836 that an act passed by the county board authorized Superior city government with its own police force and elections for mayor and aldermen. In 1857, voters approved a new plat for Superior which included all present Bass Lake townships west of US Highway 12 within its limits; this allowed development of land east of US 12 that had been vacant since 1836. In 1899, a tornado struck central Wisconsin killing 21 people including six high school students on February 14th near Wausau; this made Superior one of only two communities to experience such severe weather in American history (the other being Des Moines Iowa). A $5 million dollar bond issue was raised to help rebuild damage done by the tornado and subsequent firestorm which destroyed much property but left no fatalities or serious injuries anywhere in town save three young boys killed while playing outside their homes later that year (a tragedy sometimes referred to as "Superior's Superstorm"). Since then many improvements have been made to both infrastructure and living conditions including: -A large shopping mall with over 150 stores sprang up downtown between 2002 & 2006 giving residents more choices than ever before about where they spend their time -An ordinance passed in 2007 limiting noise levels from bars/ restaurants resulted in restaurants having to voluntarily reduce their noise level over time -A new water system system was installed throughout town replacing aging systems dating back many years making life easier for everyone involved – Finally numerous homeless individuals have found shelter due to criminal activity being curbed or eliminated altogether thanks largely to SPD's Operation Iceberg which has successfully removed thousands of addicts from Milwaukee's streets overnight Today Superior is one ofWisconsin’s most vibrant small towns with active businesses and families enjoying villageliving without sacrificing qualityof life or access to essential services like healthcare or education
Superior was first settled by the Potawatomi in 1847. The town was named after U.S. Senator Isaac Superior, who donated land for a courthouse and other buildings in the town. The first store in Superior opened on July 7, 1848. In 1860, the first school was built in Superior and classes began on September 15th. The town also had its first post office in 1860. In 1865, a fire destroyed most of the buildings in town and it didn't re-open until 1870 when a new courthouse was built. In 1888, Superior moved to its present location and became an incorporated municipality with a population of over 300 people. From 1912-1921, Superior served as capital of Wisconsin during the governorship of Franklin D Roosevelt.
