Superior, Wisconsin is a town in the United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It is located in the Driftless Valley of western Wisconsin. Superior lies on the eastern edge of the Driftless Lakes National Park. The first permanent settler in what would become Superior was David J. Smith in 1835. The town was named for Majestic (now Milwaukee) County, Illinois, where Smith's father had been born and raised. Many early settlers were farmers who grew corn, beans, and other vegetables for local consumption or sold them directly to consumers in townspeople's homes; these businesses continued until about 1920 when processing plants became available nearby and those businesses stopped as well. In 1857 the first post office opened in Superior with two mail carriers carrying messages between Milwaukee and Superior each day. From 1861 to 1871 Superior served as an alternate capital of Wisconsin due to unavailable downtown Milwaukee City Hall; it again served from 1903 to 1925 when Waukesha became the capital following passage of legislation establishing that city's governing body rather than being based on circuit court decisions which at that time could be appealed to the state supreme court (which then controlled county government). In 1902 both towns established fire departments complete with hose reels and buckets borrowed from neighboring townships; this type of service began operation statewide one year later and continues today. Some notable landmarks include: The State Capitol building completed in 1911 inside what is now Old State House Park (the original Capitol building burned down shortly thereafter), Harry Bascom Lodge No 1 National Cowboy Museum & Cultural Center founded in 1978 just northeast off US Highway 14 outside Quadrangle Village "(Bascom Lodge No 1" has since been relocated), Illini Wesleyan University & Wellesley College coeducational student colleges adjacent both east side Main Street arteries extending northward past Cemetery Road/Old State House Park towards Shawano Creek at milepost #8 northwest corner thereof containing over 240 acres "suitable for agricultural purposes", The Masonic Temple builtc 1909 just southeast off Cedar Road overlooking Quadrangle Village (& adjacent Illini Wesleyan University & Wellesley Colleges), John Fenno High School completed 1928 across Cedar Road from Illini Wesleyan University & Wellesley College - this is also home currently [to] elements from several pre-Civil War period gristmills[.]

Superior, Wisconsin is a town in Lake County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 9,723 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lake County. Superior was platted in 1836 and named for General John C. Fremont who later served as commander of the California Expedition under Ulysses S. Grant in 1849-1852. In 1855-56, a railroad line ran through the town from Superior to Green Bay; this led to a boom in business and development of the town center which continues today as one of its most important commercial areas. In 1870s–90s, Superior grew rapidly due to its location on the Wabash River between Chicago and Milwaukee – becoming an agricultural center with large plantations such as those operated by Nicholas Fenton until his death in 1922 – and its close proximity to railroads that made it an important stop on both east-west and north-south trade routes. The local economy declined during World War II because of heavy reliance on military production for munitions manufacturers in nearby Chicago; however, growth resumed after the war when new industries began to develop such as hotel/motel services (the first being built here), light manufacturing (a significant increase coming from automotive production), and medical equipment sales (to veterans returning home). On July 1, 1848, the first Superior post was established at the mouth of the Fox River. The town of Superior was platted on November 3, 1849. On February 14, 1865, it became a city.
