Superior is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 39,827 at the 2010 census, making it the smallest city in Wisconsin by population. Superior is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha Metropolitan Statistical Area and is located on the eastern edge of Milwaukee County. The first Europeans to visit Superior were French traders in 1641, and General John Jacob Astor built his summer home here in 1817 while he was visiting his father-in-law, Baron de Bourgogne. In 1824, resident James Fenton founded a school system with six schools and over 300 students; this was one of the early examples of public education in America. In 1842, two brothers named Augustus Davenport and Solomon Davenport came to Superior from Green Bay to build a lumber business; they soon decided that they wanted to sell land rather than just buy it, so they organized a town meeting to decide what should be done with their new town. They decided that everyone should get an allotment of land equal in size to their households – this was the first town meeting ever held in America. The first buildings were erected around this time: a courthouse (1843), jail (1845), post office (1846), store (1847), schools (1848), and drinking water supply (1849). The town became self-sufficient within a few years; by 1850, there were twelve businesses operating within its limits! Lumber production continued to grow until World War II when demand for wood diminished due to technology changes; however, trade did continue until after the war as Superior attracted many workers from surrounding towns who needed jobs during peacetime. Today, there are only five businesses left active within the city limits: two hotel/motels, one restaurant/barbecue joint, and one gas station/convenience store - all located outside of downtown where most activity takes place today! The growth of suburbanism has impacted aspects such as transportation which has made it difficult for people living near downtown to find work or groceries; but despite these limitations redevelopment continues apace with plans underway for both new construction as well as expanding existing facilities which will include several thousand square feet of retail space!

Superior is a town in Sawyer County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,903 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Sawyer County. The first white settlers in Superior were Nicholas and Catherine Stout who came to the area around 1836 from Canada. They founded a cabin on the east side of present-day Superior Creek and named their community after superior (a small Canadian town). In 1839, they built a cabin on the west side of present-day Superior Creek which became the county seat. The original courthouse was located on State Street in today's downtown area. In 1847, George Washington Appleby donated land to make way for a courthouse and jail in Superior. The cornerstone of the new courthouse was laid on July 4, 1848 by Judge Augustus Blythe. After years of construction, it was finally completed on September 10, 1850. The jail also served as court house until 1865 when it burned down due to an accidental fire that started while officers were arresting criminals. A post office called Superior began serving residents of this town from 1841 until it was discontinued in 1914; mail sent to Medina, Ohio received no attention here because Medina had better service from then on. The first telephone line arrived in Superior during 1907 when Julius Rosenwald wired a line between Waukesha and Racine with his own money - one reason why this small town always held an important role within rural Wisconsin society even into later decades when technology changed so dramatically!
Superior, Wisconsin was founded in 1836 by Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail. The town was named for the castle that the two men had seen while traveling through Germany.
