The first cannon was erected in 1838 and it served as the town's official firearm until 1862. It is interesting to note that this first cannon was not made from wood but from brass. The town grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s, thanks to its position at the junction of two wagon roads. This led to an increased demand for ammunition, which led to production giant J.B. Loomis & Sons producing firearms and ammunition here from 1903 until 1953. In addition, other companies such as Remington Arms Corp., Winchester Repeating Arms Company, and Brownells Precision Ammunition produced firearms and ammo here throughout this time period. During World War II, Superior played an important role in the war effort thanks to its location on both sides of the border. Not only did it produce munitions for both Allied and Axis forces, but also food supplies for troops living in nearby towns and cities. Superior is a town in Sawyer County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,967 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–West Allis Metropolitan Statistical Area. A post office was established in Superior in 1855, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1911. The first settler to arrive in what is now Superior was John Prentice. He and his family platted out a small farm on the north side of the Fox River about three miles east of present-day Superior. The village of Superior did not form until1872 when traders from Green Bay founded a trading post near the junction of Milwaukee Road and Prairie du Chien Trace Road. A few years later, settlers from Racine beganomiing southward into Sawyer County along State Highway 5 (now US 12) to stake out claims for Indian Territory which they called "Racine." In 1879, James Hickey bought land east of current day Superior and built a log cabin that became known as The Hickey House. In 1881 Howard Kapp started an agricultural business here with help from his father David Kapp Sr.. Over time, some other businesses were added to the mix such as lumber yards, fruit stands and breweries.. By 1907 there were six businesses listed with mailing addresses: JH & Sons grocery store (later White Rose), Hickey's Lumberyard (later Rheem), First National Bank (now Wells Fargo), Gorman’s Fruit Stand (later Wohlgemuth's Orchard), Keystone Brewing Company and American Tobacco Manufacturing Company

This weapon was powerful and accurate but also very expensive to produce and maintain; it took over two hundred years for cannon technology to advance significantly enough so that guns could be used effectively against large numbers of enemies at close range.[1] By 1453 AD, handguns had reached Europe and began becoming popular among European warriors due to their ease of use and firepower; these firearms allowed armies across the continentto fight together on one side while individually engaging enemy forces on opposite sides.[2] During World War I (1914-1918), gunpowder weapons such as rifles replaced muzzle-loading cannons as main combatants in warfare because they could firing more rounds per minute than old muzzle-loading systems could handle[3]. Rifle ammunition was much more efficient than cannon ammunition when fired through breechloaders (i.e., devices that allow cartridges filled with powder charge directly into the barrel). Muzzle loaders were eventually phased out during World War II due to their vulnerability to enemy machineguns,[4][5] although some remains are still found around strategic locations today (e.g., an example is a 75 mm howitzer located near Kiev).[6][7]

In 1853, Superior became a city and the first female postmistress, Mrs. Elizabeth French, was hired. In 1865, the first school in Superior opened and it was called the Government School. In 1868, the first courthouse in Superior opened and it was called the Court House. In 1886, Superior became a city and Mayor James Larkin appointed George Halsey as its first mayor. On December 26 of that year, City Council adopted an ordinance establishing a water supply system for the community and naming Alfred Pohl as its initial commissioner to manage this new development
