Sun Prairie is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located about 30 miles northwest of Milwaukee. As of the 2010 census, Sun Prairie had a population of 3,898. The town was founded by Germans in 1859 and named for Sunnyside Cemetery on the banks of the Menomonee River. In 1892, Johnnie Ray developed a shooting range in Sun Prairie with three targets: 100 yards at 25 feet (7 m), 50 yards at 30 feet (9 m), and 25 yarders at 20 feet (6 m). By 1907, Ray had built another range larger than his first two with targets up to 200 yards at 50 feet (15 m). In 1924, Julius Wolff opened his first gun shop in Sun Prairie. He specialized in shotguns and rifles; among other products he sold target holders. In 1928, Wolff merged his company with that of George Junker to form Junker-Wolff Gun Shop Inc., which remains one of the largestgun stores in America today. By World War II both ray ranges were closed due to wartime prohibition; however they reopened after repeal in 1945 as part of Project Exile which aimed to encourage local industry into military production by offering tax breaks and other incentives. The Gunsmiths Institute also made its debut here during this time when it purchased some buildings on State Street from Wolffe-Junker for use as their headquarters and manufacturing plant until 1953 when it moved downtown into new buildings on First Avenue; still extant are portions of oldRay's building on East Side Avenue which serve as the institute's current headquarters building In 1957 Stevens Gun Company opened up shop next door intended primarily for handguns but gradually transitioned into making all types target holders including revolvers and semi-automatic pistols over time becoming one of North Dakota's largest manufacturers until moving out west again around 1990 Dimensions changed again circa 2000 when Proctor & Gamble bought out StevensGunCoLtd

Sun Prairie is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin located on the eastern edge of the Iron Range, about 25 miles north of Milwaukee and 15 miles south of Appleton. As of the 2010 census, Sun Prairie had a population of 6,854. The name "Sun Prairie" was given to the area by General John Custer in 1867 when he discovered a group of Sioux living thereabouts. The first settler in Sun Prairie was Elias Nordstrom who arrived in 1847 from Sweden. He built a log cabin near present-day Sun Prairie High School and began trading goods with Indians for horses, fur, and maize. A post office was established at Sun Prairie in 1850, and soon became an important center for earlyWisconsin farmers. In 1857 James Jenson built his first store and mill here; it still stands today as Pioneer's Store #1. In 1861 Abraham Lincoln visited Sun Prairie on his way to Gettysburg National Cemetery; during his visit he stopped at Nordstrom's store to buy supplies for his army moving westward that year. When he returned home he ordered Nordstrom to rename the store "Lincoln House". This name stuck and has been used ever since by North Dakota residents as well as people from Wisconsin visiting Sun Prairie (often abbreviated "S."). In 1870 George Hennepin founded what is now Hennepin County Park just east of Sun Prairie on land acquired from several tribes including the Potawatomies, Kickapoos, Chippewas, Menominees, Fox River Ojibwe etc., some years earlier than most other areas in Wisconsin Territory which were organized into counties starting with Dodge County in 1836: this acquisition made possible by then-Senator John Fenton (D-Madison) through legislation introduced into Congress known as The Kansas & Nebraska Act (1863). After Oregon had become a state in 1888 (!), its citizens wanted their county boundaries moved closer to San Francisco so they started organizing drives around that time but it didn't happen until after Dodge County dissolved its organization into Racine County et al.--a process completed before 1907! So we have something like 56 different names bestowed upon one place--or more if you include unincorporated areas surveyed or platted since then--since arriving here over 160 years ago! It must be interesting watching all these changes take place over time... A post office called Pole Lake opened at nearby Pole Creek about 1840; it continued serving local settlers until 1889 when it was replaced by Appleton Post Office #2 due to consolidation within Appleton Township which took place that year following splits among several townships within Appleton Township itself caused by Mayor George Wickersham's efforts to attract businesses away from neighboring townships such as Oshkosh/Neenah because they were becoming too sleepy without active commerce! There are two other post offices still serving locals today: One opened at Mounds View about 1920 and closed 2000 while the other open at Green Bay about 1930 and remains open today! And those are just township-level posts? What about village-level posts?... or even block level posts?!!??? So much has changed over these many years that it’s hard to keep up...Let’s take another look back at some basics: In 1900 there were only 4 stores/mills along Main Street between White Earth creek (now Long Grove) & US 41; 8 dwellings & 3 barns buildings stood here; 2 churches (& school) also stood; 5 blacksmith shops (& 1 wagon shop) dotted main street... Today we have 16 stores/mills along Main Street alone!!! We’ve also added 3 restaurants (& 1 pub), 12 - 10 acres adjacent to our high school stadium where community events are held annually throughout summertime,...plus numerous business parks & subdivisions downtown all full of shopping malls & housesites!!! What a difference just 50 years makes!!!!!

Sun Prairie is a small town in the town of Racine, Wisconsin. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. Sun Prairie is located on the west side of Milwaukee County and 9 miles south of Green Bay. It lies within Wisconsin's 6th congressional district. The community began as a post office in 1876. The name is from "sun" meaning "day" and "paria" meaning "foreigner." The first settler in Sun Prairie was John Aiken. In 1912, the town became part of Racine. When Racine merged with Milwaukee to form Milwaukee County in 1968, Sun Prairie remained an unincorporated community within that county. In 2000, Sun Prairie had a population of 1,919 residents and it remains an unincorporated community today with its own government and school system without any contact with Racine or Milwaukee County authorities

The first European settlement in what is now Sun Prairie,Wisconsin was a group of French colonists who arrived in 1763. The area that is now Sun Prairie was part of the Potawatomi Nation at the time. The first white settlers were Nicholas J. Marsden and his family, who came to live in what is now Sun Prairie in 1810. In 1812, the first school was built in what is now Sun Prairie. A few years later, the town started to be named after General James K. Polk, president of the United States at the time. In 1835, a post office was established in Sun Prairie and it remained in operation until 1914.
