Between 1899-1922 both George Ditchey and Julius Hecker produced world’s first telescopic Rifle sights using their invention of Scope Mounting System (SMS). This move helped make Sun Prairie one of the most vibrant small towns in Wisconsin during this period. The current downtown core was built between 1970 and 1980 as part of a larger redevelopment project called "Pioneer Place." Pioneer Place included many high-quality shops, restaurants, and offices within walking distance of each other; it also featured two large outdoor Amphitheaters for public performances and various events throughout the year. Today, Pioneer Place remains an emblematic example of 20th century suburban development – but with an updated flavor that celebrates local democracy and diversity. One significant change that has occurred in recent decades is the growth of Sun Prairie's teen population; since 1990, enrollment at nearby Waukesha Central School has exploded from 22 students to nearly 350 students! This increase can be partially attributed to SUNPRAIRIE'S innovative dual enrollment program which allows middle school students from neighboring schools to attend our school while still receiving high-quality education! In addition to providing excellent opportunities for socialization among young people who might not have otherwise had access to quality educational experiences outside their homes or neighborhoods, this program also helps keep our town humming during slower times by giving residents some type of economic stability beyond simply having goods brought into your house from out of state every week or two!

The first European tosight Sun Prairie was Captain James Cook on April 30, 1792 during his third voyage around America. Cook named it "Sun River" because he saw no sun at that location and thought this must be where the river originated from. In 1854, General David Taylor founded what would become Sun Prairie as a military post for settlers coming westward through the Great Lakes region. The post office was established in 1857 and remained in operation until it closed in 1916. By 1870, most residents had moved away orchards and vineyards were abandoned due to bad weather and competition from larger villages developing along the same routes. In 1863, Isaac Silliman opened a farmstead called Waukesha Valley near present-day Sun Prairie which became one of the largest farming communities east of Chicago during that time period. Silliman's farmstead still stands today with access to many acres of land that has been cultivated by numerous families over the years including those who lived at Waukesha Valley during World War II when it served as an airfield for local forces fighting against Nazi Germany. In 1915, Solon Cushing set up shop at 11th Street and Woodruff Avenue after purchasing some equipment used by farmers in eastern Illinois for growing corn on their farms thereabouts.. He started raising chickens here too which led to his business name - Cushing's Chicken Co.. Today we operate out of our original building on 11th Street which housed our grocery store prior to its demolition in 2006 but we continue to sell eggs from our original barn which once housed our slaughtering arena!
