The history of gun swivels goes back to at least 1876. That year, a man by the name of John Brownell patented a design that revolutionized how firearms were used. In 1975, Brownells merged with other companies and this led to the development of what is now known as Sturm Ruger Firearms Corporation. Sun Prairie, Wisconsin is a town in the Brown County area of Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Sun Prairie is located on the Fox River and is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. It was founded in 1854 by John James Audubon and his brother-in-law, George Washington Smith. The first post office was established in Sun Prairie on November 10, 1854. The first settler in Sun Prairie was Isaac Prentice. In 1856, David Heald married Agnes Murdoch from nearby Waukesha County. David Heald became one of the original incorporators of Sun Prairie Township on March 3,1858. Captain John Fetterman settled near present day Sun Prairie on June 12th 1857 with his family and began to farm land that he now owns and operates as Fetterman Farms today. In 1865, General Order No 7 issued by President Abraham Lincoln called for all black Americans within five miles (8 km) of any white person to receive protection from discrimination or seizure of their property until such time as they had been emancipated or Integration could take place in America's "Determined White World." This order applies to those living east of the Mississippi River including what is today Sun Prairie township and most likely also parts of Waukesha County which were annexed into Milwaukee during that time period according to local histories and sources cited herein
Sun Prairie began as a small farming community in the mid- 1800s. The first post office was established in 1871, and by 1885, the town had a population of around 100 residents. By 1915, Sun Prairie had grown to over 1,000 residents. In 1920, the Sun Prairie School District was founded and it remains an integral part of the community today. In 1955, Sun Prairie became a city and has continued to grow ever since. Today, Sun Prairie is a vibrant metropolis with a rich history that is still being celebrated today.
