Shotguns also became more common during this time as they became an important tool for hunting animals or target practice. In 1949, Gun Parts Corporation was founded in Sun Prairie by Clarence Wickersham Jr., who had designs on making better gun parts without having to go through a large manufacturing company like Colt or Ruger & Co.. Gun Parts Corporation soon became one of the leading companies in its field with their innovative products and customer service. Sun Prairie is a town in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 5,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha metropolitan area. Sun Prairie is home to the University of Wisconsin–Sun Prairie and its medical school and hospital. The first post office in Sun Prairie was established on January 6, 1871, by James Halsey. The towns name may be derived from "sunny" (a word meaning "warm") or "pineapple" (a word meaning "fruit"). A year later, on April 15th, 1872, a post office called Heckel was opened in what is now Sun Prairie. On November 15th, 1876 the first farm land in Sun Prairie was sold to Ole Hanson. On October 1st of that year there were 3 businesses open for business: the store run by John Wiegand and his two sons-in-law John Ransom and Amos Hauser; a wagon shop operated by Jacob Dennison; and an inn/bar called the White Hart which served as a stop for stagecoaches going between Fond du Lac and Green Bay. A new Masonic Lodge No. 2 was organized on December 9th of that year when Doctor John Pemberton dedicated it at the White Hart Inn after making a speech about Freemasonry being necessary for social progressivism blah blah blah etcetera etcetera etcetera...on December 10th following Doctor Pemberton's speech some 56 men across town met to make their decisions on how they would go forward with this lodge! In short order they voted unanimously to change their name to Sun Prairie Masonic Lodge No 2! On May 8th 1877 Jens Petersen became one of only five members of the village board who did not reside in Sun Prairie when it formed under charter granted by then Governor Julius Nelsen! This shows just how much growth had occurred since those early days! On July 1st 1878 Charles Kapp bought out Jens Petersen's share on the farm so he could form his own company - Kapp & Company - selling goods door-to-door throughout central Wisconsin including Sun Prairie! It wasn't until 1916 when Charles Kapp died that his son Harry took over operations from him - Harry Kapp Sr.'s father had passed away earlier that year leaving behind three children who ran various aspects of their father's small business - Harry Sr., Ernst (Ernest) Kapp Jr., and Harriett Mapes Kapp (nee Rasmussen). After World War II both sides lost interest in textile production so all but two buildings still stand today within sight of each other across busy First Street NW corner Third Avenue NW facing into what used to be known as 'Kapps' Drug Store prior to its acquisition by CVS Pharmacy back in 2000! In recent years most activity has centered around local playgroups toddler programs music festivals held every summer during high season...the last festival being held on Labor Day weekend in 2006!!
