In the early 1800s, Sun Prairie was a small town in Wisconsin. The town was located on the border of present day Milwaukee and Waukesha counties. It was at this time that firearms began to be used in the area. One of the first firearms to be used in Sun Prairie was a rifle known as the “Pioneer Rifle”. This rifle had a wooden stock and metal barrel. It was used by hunters to hunt game in the area. After years of use, the “Pioneer Rifle” started to rust and needed to be replaced. In 1868, a man named John Cobb bought the “Pioneer Rifle” from its previous owner and added some new features such as an adjustable stock and bayonet lug. This new rifle became known as the “Cobb Gun”. The gun continued to be used by Sun Prairie residents until it was finally destroyed in 1920. During World War II, Sun Prairie saw heavy action when Nazi Germany invaded Poland. Many locals enlisted in service and were able to use their firearms for combat purposes. Some of these guns even ended up being given back to their owners after the war ended! Today, many people still remember how important firearm usage was during World War II and keep these memories alive with firearm t-shirts!

In Sun Prairie, Wisconsin in 1879, a group of men and boys decided to start a local gun shop. The shop was called the Rifle Shop and it remains open to this day. In 1896, the town got their first store when the railroad came through. The store was built on what is now Main Street and it was known as the Gunsmith Shop. In 1934, Sun Prairie added their own post office which also became known as the Post Office Annex. That same year, Sun Prairie turned into an unincorporated community. In 1951, Sun Prairie got its own school which is still in use today.
Sun Prairie is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the county seat of Barron County. The population was 24,811 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–West Allis Metropolitan Statistical Area. Sun Prairie was founded in 1873 by German immigrants as a small town on the banks of the Menomonee River opposite what is now Wauwatosa. The name "Sun Prairie" originated from a community near Berlin on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan that had been called "Sunspring." The first post office in Sun Prairie was established in 1875, and it continued to serve until 1907. The first store in Sun Prairie was started by John Cramer in 1876 and operated for four years before closing down due to financial troubles. In 1887, Julius Kapp purchased land adjoining Sun Prairie and built what became known as Kapp's Lake Country Store which continued to be open until 1951 when it closed due to fire damage. In 1895, Charles Sibley opened his famous grocery store at 417 N Main Street which became one of the most popular stores in town during its time; it still operates today under another name but with a newer location at 715 N Main Street. In 1907, Jens Hansen opened his second store at 505 N Main Street which also lasted until 1951 before being shuttered due to lack of business opportunity or competition from other stores located nearby on First Avenue or Milwaukee Avenue. In 1916, Lillian Pohl opened her own bakery at 402 E Main Street which continued to operate until 1976 when it closed because of low sales rates and changing tastes among customers who were no longer interested in baked goods made from scratch like Lillian Pohl had used to be.). In 1952, Drury Bros hardware store (now known as Pep Boys) moved into its current location at 601 N 2nd St., becoming one of the earliest hardware stores west of Chicago open specifically for retail Customers such as carpenters, builders etc.; Pep Boys continues operation today (and has since expanded beyond just Hardware) under multiple names including Pep Boys Hardware Inc., Pep Boys Retail Ltd., & Pep Boys Enterprises Inc.. A new shopping center called Northwest Plaza completed construction across First Avenue from Kapp's Lake Country Store between 1957-1960; this mall served primarily as an entertainment venue with movie theaters, restaurants & more besides small businesses utilizing large amount floor space for their garages/entertainment areas outdoors throughout much of its existence aside from being converted into apartments starting around 1977 & lasting through 1990s; though Northwest Plaza never conceived itself as anything more than simply an interchange serving various malls located immediately adjacent or even within walking distance (& frequently does so still), its overall impact on downtown redevelopment can generally be considered significant given its proximity (~2 blocks east along First Ave.) As would become increasingly common throughouttowns throughout America over ensuing decades; development outsidezonation boundaries graduallyencroach upon& defining circumscribed Downtownhave status quo antecedents (& often resultendsin MORE inward-lookingNotwithstandingthis gentrification edifice’s prominent presence atopdowntownon “the strip” – see map below)),albeit not always without controversy). sunprairiewi

Sun Prairie is a small town located in the central region of Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,914 at the 2010 census. Sun Prairie is part of the larger rural area of Polk County and is bordered by the towns of Clearwater and Maple Grove to the north, Hudson to the east, and Appleton to the south. It lies within Green Bay Municipal limits. The first clear evidence that humans were living in what is now Sun Prairie dates back to about 12,000 years ago when stone tools found there date back around 11,500 years old. At that time, Sun Prairie was known as Micanora Pointe because it was from which waves of Native Americans attacked ships sailing upriver on the Fox River during their annual raids against European settlers. The name Micanora means "place where many hunters gather." The first residents in Sun Prairie arrived in 1857 following a land grant from Governor Francis Wirthman. The town's founding occurred on December 25th when James Wasserstrom donated 4 acre(s) for a public square and post office located near present-day Union Station on Main Street. In 1861, surveyors named Sun Prairie after Bostonian native Solomon Snyder who had come west as an explorer with Ulysses S. Grant during his Expedition of 1846-47. At that time, Snyder was one of only two American citizens ever awarded lifetime membership in London's Royal Geographical Society (the other being George Washington). In 1865, sawmills began operations in Sun Prairie; they would remain an important part of local economy until World War II when they were replaced by mills capability thereby eliminating jobs in the town entirely In 1916–17 construction began on what is now Polk County Courthouse which opened its doors on October 17th 1917 On July 3rd 1948 Pritzker Prize winning artist Edward Hopper moved into his first home – 601 Elmira Road – just east of today’s intersection of US Highway 20 and State Road 614; he would live there until his death six years later According to2010 census data: 1/9/2010 Population 1,914
