Sun Prairie is a town in the Milwaukee metropolitan area, located on the North Shore of Lake Michigan. The population was 24,977 at the 2010 census. Sun Prairie is one of two towns in Milwaukee County that are both designated as "maquoketa" (fox) villages designation. The other is Wauwatosa. The land that would become Sun Prairie was first settled by Native Americans in the mid-19th century. A post office called Sun Prairie was established in 1857, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1872, John Hargrave donated of land to become the nucleus of what would become Sun Prairie. In 1903, a mill named Hargrave & Company was built on the site of today's Sun Prairie Elementary School. This mill produced flour for local grocery stores and for export to Europe. The mill closed in 1986 due to low demand for its products. In 1927, Jens Jensen purchased 1/2 mile (0 km) east of today's downtown from Oliver Olson and began developing what would eventually be known as Sun Prairie Parkland subdivision which contains many fine homes including one now owned by President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama. Mr. Jensen also founded Sun Prairie Daycare which continues to serve residents today with excellent care services! Since rifles were so much more efficient than pistols at engaging distant targets at long ranges (>100 meters), they soon replaced pistols as the main method of firearm use during World War II. This change was largely due to advances in military technology that made it possible for snipers on battlefields across Europe to engage targets beyond what pistol-fired munitions could reach.

Sun Prairie is a small town in the Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 914 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1854 as a post office and lumber town by Danish immigrants, who named it Sun Prairie after the sun that they saw shining down on their farmlands during summertime. The first settlers were farmers who grew corn and wheat. When railroads arrived in the area in 1885, they brought with them new jobs and residents began moving to Sun Prairie from other towns in the region. The city of Milwaukee was founded nearby, but Sun Prairie continued to grow because of its location and its reputation for being a friendly place to live. Its businesses became one of the most successful in Wisconsin, and its citizens achieved some great things such as becoming members of both the National Hockey League (NHL) and American Football Association (AFA). The town also experienced some growth when it annexed parts of neighboring towns around it during the 20th century; today, Sun Prairie is home to over 40 buildings from earlier eras. Today, Sun Prairie remains a vibrant community with many cultural attractions including an art museum, post office museum, theatre district, library system, playgrounds/sports leagues, tennis courts/hard courts/golf courses etc., as well as churches (including two LDS congregations), shopping centers (including one with a Sears store), restaurants and bars. It is also home to several historical sites such as John F Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum and German-American Heritage Center which are open to visitors every day from 9am–5pm.

Sun Prairie grew rapidly during the 1850s and 1860s, thanks to its location at the junction of two wagon roads and its access to fertile farmland. By 1870, it had a population of around 100 people and a school. In 1876, Sun Prairie became part of the new state of Wisconsin and quickly developed into a thriving community. By 1900, it had a population of 3,000 people and an academy. In 1916, Sun Prairie hosted the first annualWisconsin Agricultural Fair.
