Suamico, Wisconsin was founded in 1847 by the brothers Moses and Solomon Suamico. The village became a post office in 1851, and a town in 1865. The population of Suamico reached 1,052 in 1900 and 3,814 in 2000. In 2007, the town passed through an annexation process with neighboring Wausau which increased its population to 4,965 residents as of 2010. The first settler at Suamico was Isaac Hauptman who arrived on September 11th, 1847. He married Teresa Hofer on October 7th and they founded the household name Hauptman for themselves. Jonas Sorenson also came to live at Suamico shortly after he arrived from Norway. The first store opened up within the limits of the community on December 8th, 1849 by John Dickson. By 1860 there were five stores open in what is now known as Suamico Village: four by John Dickson and one by Solomon Prentice. Facing competition from towns like Wausau and Menomonie over land development opportunities within their boundaries, residents voted to incorporate into a new town on February 14th, 1865 under the leadership of Driggs Cushing (Driggs had been mayor of Wausau). In 1907-08 when Wisconsin Avenue was built between downtown Milwaukee and Lake Michigan it created an opportunity for businesses along that corridor to expand into outlying areas such as Suamico Village where only two stores had been established when annexation occurred; both closed within 10 years due to competition from other businesses located closer to downtownMilwaukee One reason that businesses may have left Suamico Village after annexation was because of high taxes which were assessed against property owners located there - rates varied depending upon size or siting of business During World War II many local farmers turned their attention towards agriculture since those activities were more profitable than manufacturing during wartime For much of the war period however industry continued to grow with automobiles becoming popular until 1941 when production ended due to World War II

The racial makeup of the village was 98% White and 2% Native American.[2] Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1%of the population.[3] There are 42 households out of which 31% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61% were married couples living together, 6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20% were non-families. 15%of all households were made up of individuals and 5% had someone from another family
