The first handguns in the United States were made by Samuel Colt, a gunsmith and inventor from Connecticut. In 1836, Colt produced the first revolver in America, which he designed himself. The revolver was called the "Samuel Colt Pistol". In 1845, John Wilkes Booth shot President Lincoln with a .38 caliber revolver. This event is often considered to be the beginning of the American Civil War. In 1861, Confederate General Robert E. Lee ordered his army to wear firearms on their uniforms to show that they were not under British control. This act is sometimes cited as symbolic of Southern secessionism. Suamico is a small town in the heart of the Wisconsin Badger State, located about 20 miles east of Madison. The population was 1,524 at the 2010 census. The Suamico post office has been in operation since 1853. The first settler in what is now Suamico was Jonas Sutter. Jonas set up a cabin on the edge of a Native American village and named it after himself, Suamico (meaning "high water"). In 1836, James Fenton established an gristmill here and began to make flour for local markets. By 1840, there were also three homes and twelve people living inSuamico. In 1847, Jens Jensen started to raise corn here and named his farm Lundehusen after his father-in-law Ole Lunde who had settled near by some years earlier. By 1850, there were twenty people living inSuamico with four mills - one for flour, one for milk, one for cheese and one for saltpeter production - all powered by horse power or wind power. The first railroad arrived in Suamico around 1870 when the Milwaukee Road built a line through this area from Milwaukee to Beloit via Madison and then east to Green Bay; this route became known as the "Old Line." By 1871, there were eighteen businesses operating inSuamioc with a total employment of 511 people; two mills alone operated generating over 2 million pounds of flour each year! A post office was established atSuamioc on November 3rd, 1853 by John Hickey with Samuel Prescott as Postmaster General. A store opened on May 14th 1863 by Wm Cramer which continued until 1865 when it closed due to lack of customers; however Gertrude Ladd & Bros., which later became known as Ladd's grocery store reopened in 1865 serving general merchandise until they closed again circa 1980s although remnants remain today inside the building which still bears their name! By 1880 more than fifty residences had been erected including sixteen frame buildings and thirty-six logs structure making Suamioc into one large rectangle bounded on each side by long streets flanked by log homes – almost always gabled roofed affairs complete with running boards between eaves – giving it its characteristic look today! Today much of what remains from that time period can still be seen within downtown Suamioco where manyhistoric buildings are preserved along Main Street including: The Burtons Stores (now part of Macy's) which operated from 1886-1912; The First National Bank (now Wells Fargo) which built its original addition adjacent to Main Street between 1909-1920; The Masonic Temple dating back to ca 1860 – originally light blue but nowtan brown with white trim inside ( alterations made during intervening decades caused most likely problems with fire code compliance); An early exampleof an Art Nouveau building such as those found throughout southwestern Wisconsin called “Hershey” just south of downtown that stood until c1950s next door to Piggly Wiggly candy store having been leased from Hershey Chocolate Corp.; A hardware/grocery complex that included several restaurants/cafes dating backto 1916 including Country Inn & Fried Fish restaurant currently occupied by Bohemian Caverns Casino Resort;An ice cream parlor Opal Springs Creamery opened northeast of downtown SUAMICO sometime before 1978 while another Opal Springs Ice Cream Shop developed approximately two miles south across US Highway 9W just south of Interstate 94 following I-94 construction nearbyOpal Springs Drive continues today becoming business Loop 12 WI coming out near current day intersectionSR 155 heading southeast then turning northeast past suamioco limits

Kennedy, who had recently been elected President of the United States. In 2013,Suamico was recognized as a “Wisconsin Historical Marker” by the Wisconsin Historical Society. The marker is located on Main Street in downtown Suamico. The marker features a plaque that reads: "John Fitzgerald Kennedy County seat from 1903 to 1957." John F. Kennedy was born on April 15th, 1917 in Hyannis Port Massachusetts to Joseph Papp and Rosemary Clooney Kennedy (née Mencken). He attended Harvard University where he met his future wife Jacqueline Bouvierinsky while attending class; they married on November 6th, 1942 at Staunton Chapel near Hyannis Port and moved to Washington D.C., becoming American citizens on December 2nd, 1947. They were first elected to the Ulysses S Grant Presidential Library Board which worked on construction projects for him during his presidency from 1893-1897 and 1901-1909; they also served as First Lady from 1953 until 1961 when she resigned due to health issues; their only child together is President John F.]
The town of Suamico, Wisconsin was first settled in 1836 by the Benton family. The town's name comes from the Potawatomi word "suumichi." In 1851, the United States government established Fort Snelling in what is now Minneapolis, Minnesota. The fort housed a military post and also served as a trading post for Indian traders. Because of this, Suamico had become known as a center for trade with Native Americans. In 1874, the Milwaukee Water Works was constructed near Suamico to provide water to residents of Milwaukee and other towns in the area. The water works helped increase business aroundSuamico and made it easier for people to do their grocery shopping and work at home. The town developed into a small community over time. In 1925, Suamico became an incorporated city and began to grow more quickly than other nearby communities. In 1950, Suamico hosted the annual Apple Blossom Festival which is still one of its most popular events today.
