Stoughton, Wisconsin is a small town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 1,817 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Racine–Waukesha–Kalkaska Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Stoughton were French traders in 1622, and they named it "Bois des Femmes" after their guide, Marie-Hélène de Boisbriand. A fur trader, George Hennepin, discovered rich land near the current site of Stoughton in 1812 and named it for his friend and mentor John Cushing; Cushing had been a captain with Hennepin's company on an expedition from Chicago to explore the Great Lakes region in 1809-10. The town was platted in 1836 by John Mapes as part of Racine Township (now Waukesha County). When Racine Township was organized into Fox Valley County in 1840, Stoughton became its seat; it remained so until Racine became a city in 1908. In 1862, when Milwaukee was founded as the new county seat, Stoughton declined to become part of Milwaukee because its residents considered themselves too closely related to early Milwaukeeites for that purpose. The village continued to be governed by a board of trustees until 1946 when it became an independent municipality under the name "Stoughton". In 1902, Anson Noyes donated 5 acres (20 hectares) south of downtown to become what is now known as Noyes Park; this donation has been used for various purposes including baseball and football fields and tennis courts since then. A major fire destroyed most of downtown Saint Anthony Falls on May 6th 1914 while people were using the park adjacent to Main Street; reconstruction began immediately but took many years due to extensive damage caused by smoke and water seeping from beneath ground level street repairs that had not yet been completed properly according to plans set before the fire North Avenue between First and Third Streets served as a primary shopping center for downtown Saint Anthony Falls until 1965 when retail development moved away from downtown due primarily to rising costs associated with building new stores on elevated property which required larger footprints than earlier buildings - however current usage still includes some use of streetscape elements through public programming such as art shows/open houses taking place within or near Noyes Park . The village annexed portions of Waukesha County in 1954 which resulted in significant growth including annexation of much older unincorporated parts along with several thousand residences currently located within today's Village limits
In 1875, a man named William F. Cooke developed a telescope that could be used for spotting targets in the sky. This telescope was called the Cooke-Ayer Telescope and is still in use today. The first time that this telescope was used was on July 4th, 1876, to watch the fireworks display from Independence Hall in Philadelphia. The next year, on October 25th, 1877, it was used to view the eclipse of the moon. In 1880, Cooke provided a new mount for his telescope which allowed it to be stationary instead of being driven by an animal or hand crank like earlier telescopes. He also improved upon how he aimed the telescope and found that if you place your finger on one end of the tube and move it towards another end of the tube then adjust your focus too then look through the eyepiece at something you want to spot then move your finger away from the eyepiece so you can’t direct where your finger is located when looking through it again; this technique is now known as “telescopic watching”. In 1886, he also developed a method for taking Photographs using his camera which we now know as photography. Finally, in 1903 he designed and built what is known as “The world’s first professional quality digital image analyzer” which allows anyone with internet access to take pictures and share them online without having to go outside and photograph! These technological advancements have helped make scopes more accessible and popular than ever before!

Stoughton is a town in Brown County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,813 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Milwaukee-Waukesha Metropolitan Area. The first settler in what is now Stoughton was John P. Fenton who arrived in 1837. He erected a log cabin on the south side of Lodi Creek about four miles (6 km) east of present-day Stoughton. A gristmill and sawmill were built soon after by local farmer Josiah Halsey Sr., and by 1860, there were five mills in the town with a total capacity of . By 1870, all but one of the original mills had been destroyed by fire or other natural causes; however, two more mills were built later that decade to meet increasing demand for flour from nearby towns such as Waukesha and Racine. The early millers also developed a large garden industry which produced fruits and vegetables for market. In 1892, James Dickey established a post office in what became Stoughton; it was replaced by present day's post office on July 1, 1899.
