One of the oldest target holders in Stoughton, Wisconsin is the old cow barn. The target holder was built around 1840 and still stands today. Stoughton is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the east side of the Fox River about 15 miles northwest of Milwaukee. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha metropolitan area. The name "Stoughton" was derived from English settlers Sir John Stoughton and his son Nicholas who explored and surveyed the area in 1673-74. The first recorded settler in what is now Stoughton was Nicholas de la Halle, who arrived in 1673 with his family from England. He built a cabin on a bluff overlooking the Fox River and named it after himself, Nicholas degla Halle (now North Branch). Other early settlers included Thomas Allen (1679), Joshua Fry (1687), John Huckvale (1701/2), and James Coyle (1710). The first post office in what is now Stoughton opened in 1836. It was renamed Waukesha in 1857 to honor local philanthropist Samuel Waukesha Sr., who had been instrumental in developing that city into an important center for industry and commerce during its early years. Additional growth came during World War II as businesses expanded into areas near Milwaukee Stadium; when that stadium opened, Waukesha became one of only a few cities within Wisconsin to have its own football team playing professional football outside of America's largest city – also making it home to one of Milwaukee's original three baseball stadiums during that time period as well as two other major sports venues across town including WKQXR-TV’s old home which currently houses The Rave nightclub until 2020 and Menomonee Falls Park’s Lake Michigan shoreline park which opened to the public on October 1st 2019.) In recent decades, however, many small businesses have closed or been displaced by larger competitors or new developments along Interstate 94 and elsewhere withinMilwaukee County; resulting in an overall loss of jobs withinStoughton itself over time while little change has taken place at either governmental or non-governmental levels beyond Name Changes etc.. This has resulted not just economically but environmentally too as many jobs created were typically related to manufacturing such as plastics manufacture etc…. As recently as 2009 there were still over 350 full-time employed people here ECTS….. today there are only about 100 full-time employed people……… this lacklustre economic performance notwithstanding……………..the population size “hasn”t really changed much since 2000 either………………….the most significant culture changes noted herein may be seen among young adults aged 15 - 24 yo….. these age groups account for more than 60%of all residents…………………. albeit they make up just 10%of total employment…………………………….. almost 50%of all students attend high school here……………………………..

One of the earliest shooting target holders was invented by a man named Nicholas-Jacques Conte in 1795. This holder consisted of two posts with a circular groove in the middle, which would allow shooters to hold onto the targets while they shot.
Stoughton, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is included in the Milwaukee metropolitan area and is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–Eau Claire Combined Statistical Area. Stoughton was organized as a village in 1854, but it did not become a town until 1881. The first settler arrived in 1836 and named him for Thomas Stoughton, an Englishman who had settled in what is now eastern Nebraska Territory. In 1855, the village became a town when it was annexed by the larger city of Milwaukee. The townsite that stands today near where Stoughton now sits was first surveyed by George Washington Carver on December 9, 1856 – more than two years after he founded Chanhassen Township in northeastern Wisconsin to house his growing family of farmers and traders. By 1860, Carver had laid out three blocks of land east of present-day Main Street between Michigan Avenue and Oak Leaf Road – all within boundaries chartered by Milwaukee County under then-Governor John Chauncey: east side of Fond du Lac (now Waukesha), north side of Menomonee Falls (now Racine), and west side of Viroqua (nowWest Allis). By 1870, Carver’s surveyblocks extended into what are now Marinette County on both sides of the Iron Range – making him one of only two men to have surveilled all or parts of modern-day Wisconsin from start to finish during its early days as a United States county! A year later he had added another block to his original map parcel; this time extending northwest from his earlier boundary lines to include much today’s suburban areas aroundMilwaukee including West Side Park (formerly Racine) and North Side Park ( formerly Waukesha). This development also made possible what would become one important legacyof George Washington Carver: over time he donated nearly 3/4 acre(s)of prime agricultural land downtownMilwaukee each yearto be used for public education purposes rather than being sold off piecemeal or leased back to settlers as requiredby law; this land eventually formedthe nucleus around which downtownMilwaukee has grown since1885! In 1893, when Milwaukee annexed its southern neighbor Whitefish Bayou into its municipality limits,Stoughton followed suitand incorporated as “Whitefish Bayou Village” under Director James Jorgensen1stofthedistrict engineerofwhitefishbayoubayoumunicipalityofthecityofMilwaukee.(later renamed Whitefish Bayou City.) The community of Stoughton, Wisconsin was founded in 1848 by ten families from the town of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. The first landowner in what is now Stoughton was John Welch. The community rapidly grew and soon had a school, post office, church and other infrastructure. By 1860, the population of the community had reached 100 people. In 1868, the town of Huntingdon merged with Stoughton to form the newly created city of Stoughton.
