Stoughton, Wisconsin is home to one of the largest optical supply chains in the Midwest. Stoughton is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the border of Green Bay and Menomonee counties. The population was 2,532 at the 2010 census. The town comprises eight villages: Bradford, Carver, Columbia, Decatur, Dodgeville, Forestburg, Heidelberg Heights, and Jewett. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. As of the census of 2000, there were 2,221 people residing in the town; 1,940 households out of which 36% had children under 18 living with them,[2] 47% were married couples living together,[3] and 31%were single women without children. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.14.[4] In spite of this low fertility rate (1 child per every 8 residents), Stoughton became one of Wisconsin's most diverse towns by annexing nearby communities such as Heidelberg Heights and Dodgeville in order to increase its population density past what would be possible through natural growth alone[5]. Additionally,[6] Stoughton has made significant investments into public education including multiple high schools (Bradford High School being America's first "Achievable Comprehensive High School"), an elementary school (Decatur Elementary), a middle school (Carver Middle School), and now also a high school (Algonquin). Since incorporation as a village in 1959,[7] Stoughton has experienced rapid growth due to its location within easy commuting distance for many jobs throughout Northwestern Wisconsin and especially Green Bay[8][9]. With over $32 million invested into roads/ jurisdictions since 2001[10], infrastructure expansion continues apace as more businesses open up shop in an ever-growing community that justifiably boasts “the best place to live”)[11].

Stoughton is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the east side of the Fox River. The population was 8,811 at the 2010 census. The townsite was first settled in 1847 by immigrants from Ireland and England. Stoughton became a village in 1903 and a town in 1907. The name comes from the Old English word "stoc," meaning an ox cart or wagon bed and "hutton," meaning house or farmstead. The history of Stoughton can be traced back to 1847 when Irish immigrants founded the village of Staughtonville on the west bank of the Fox River near present-day Milwaukee,Wisconsin. After years of struggling with hillslopes and bad soil, they named their new settlement for John Fenton, one of their number who had come overland from Ireland two years earlier as part of a small group led by Captain George Stephenson. Fenton's arrival set off a chain reaction that led to further immigration and development in what would eventually become Stoughton Township (now Waukesha). In 1863, when Milwaukee County was created from parts of Dane County, it included both villages along with several other townships including Apple Valley (now Allumette), Blue Earth (now Brown Deer), Green Bay (now Hamlin), Hales Corners (now Hubbardston Heights), La Crosse (now La Crosse Falls), Madison Heights (later called Maple Leafe Manor), Mill Woods (later renamed Weston Mills), Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church—the first post-Katrina parish church in America—and many others until 1890 when all but 2 out of 38 municipalities were annexed into Milwaukee County. In 1907, following annexation by Milwaukee County, Stoughton became its own municipality under its own governance system known as "township government." That same year saw another major influx of settlers as Canada began to migrate during World War I and dozens more people came overland through Favorite Lake country between Waukesha Junction on the north border with Racine County and Mukwonago on the south border with Elkhart County joining those already living there before hostilities erupted across Europe that summertime. By 1920, there were 10 families living in Stoughtontownship government while 514 people lived within its boundaries outside it which resulted in 1% growth per annum; however this growth stopped once prohibition took hold throughout most northeastern Wisconsin after 1915 because bootlegging became an essential part of organized crime then) By 1930 only 158 people lived within township government’s borders compared to 434 residents living within Milwaukee County limits which resulted in 0% growth per annum; however again this growth stopped once prohibition prohibition ended throughout most northeastern Wisconsin However due to increasing social unrestrained by law enforcement efforts starting around 1935-1940 due largely to changing demographics inside and outside township government’s borders primarily due to changes brought about by World War II — mainly increasedement rates for alcohol sales combined with wartimexpansionism—- municipal incorporation finally resumed statewide beginning that December following successful petition signatures filed by residents seeking such an option . With local ordinance incorporating fully effective July 1st 1940Stoughton received city status becoming one of 122 cities/cities & boroughs incorporated intoMilwaukee through legislative action pursuant to Act No . 281 above
In 1836, the town of Stoughton was organized and named in honor of General James St. Clair. The first post office was opened in 1838, and the first store was built in 1840. In 1855, the town began to grow rapidly, thanks to an angel that landed on the property and a Donation Crop Drive program that provided seed money for local farmers to grow crops. In 1861, Stoughton became a city and soon had a population of over 500 residents. During World War II, the city played an important role in providing materials for the war effort including munitions plants, shipyards, and tanks. After the war ended, many businesses closed or moved away from Stoughton as its economy declined. However, some people continued to live and work in the city until it eventually went bankrupt in 2000.
