In 1903, John Fenton developed an improved version of gun lock that permitted firearms to be locked from both sides with two keys. This modification allowed shotguns and rifles to be stored together without fear of them being stolen or damaged. Gun lock production continued until about 1950 in Stoughton alone. Gun locks are still used in some parts of America today, most notably in Texas where they are popular among law enforcement officers for use at jails and prisons.

Stoughton is a town in Marinette County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 5,854 at the 2010 census. The Saint Croix River flows through the town. The first Europeans to visit what is now Stoughton were French missionaries in 1763. A post office was established at Stoughton in 1837, and the town incorporation took place on December 20 of that year. In 1859, Stoughton became an act of Congress and approved the creation of a branch line of the Milwaukee Railroad through it which ran from Green Bay to Racine. This railroad helped stimulate economic development in Stoughton during the 1860s and 1870s. During World War II, many residents worked for military service or for companies manufacturing munitions in nearby Oakwood or Wauwatosa. A large number of these workers moved into newly developed neighborhoods within Stoughton after the war ended. One such neighborhood was called "The Hill" because it housed some of the highest concentrations of German-American citizens living in Marinette County at that time (approximately 60% of all Germans living there). In 1994, part of downtown Stoughton were destroyed by a fire that started accidentally while firefighters were removing debris from a construction site near State Street and US Highway 11. The fire damage was extensive and required $2 million to rebuild; this event marks one milestone on what has been called "the largest municipal infrastructure project ever undertaken by any municipality in Marinette County." In 2006, voters passed a referendum authorizing annexation by Racine into Milwaukee County if they so choose; this annexation resulted in an increase to town's population from 4,711 to 6,512 people over two years later (2010-2012). As part as being annexed into Milwaukee County means more services are available to residents within its boundaries - including access to parks and medicare coverage - this has also led to job growth for local businesses since then as well as investment opportunities for new businesses looking for space within city limits but not subject to county zoning regulations

Stoughton is a town in Douglas County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay–Waukesha–West Allis metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Stoughton was Amos Fenton who came to the area in 1854. He and his wife, Rachel, started a farm on what is now North First Street. In 1855, John Prentice moved to Stoughton from Wauwatosa and founded the Prentice Hotel which remains standing today. Two years later, William Hildebrandt arrived from Racine and began trading with Indians near present-day east side of town. In 1860, Isaac Storer settled in Stoughton and built a log cabin on current day South Third Street. A post office called storer was established in 1865; it remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1867, George Gerson bought land northeast of town from Nicholas Kappes for $2 per acre (in today's money this would be about $ ). Gerson built a house there which still stands today as part of the Gerson Historical Museum complex located off State Highway 8 north of town center. That same year also saw the foundation of Park School District No 3 by Judge Augustus Bendixen which included Stoughton along with eight other towns within its boundaries In 1870 local blacksmith Samuel Jelinek opened up his shop on Main Street near present-day West Side High School; he became known as "the King Of The Streets" due to his high quality work products available at that time By 1880 Stoughton had two stores: one run by James Cavanaugh (later owner of Jolinek fame) and another by Elisha Whitehead In 1886 George Smith platted what is now south side of town – including eastern edge of current day Park School District – for incorporation into Green Bay but no action was taken until 1888 when banker David Dreyer donated all unsold lot lines to town commissioners Dreyer purchased additional lots east and northwest of where he originally platted the community – making it possible for future development On Valentine's Day 1889 Mayor Ira Brown gave away 1/3rd section (now east side streets between Main and South Third Streets) of central square for free to any resident who could show proof they were married or living with someone under 21 years old That same year saw groundbreaking ceremonies for both primary school and new Methodist church located on Center Square adjacent to modern day East Side High School vernacular construction continued through most OF THE 20th CENTURY with few changes except annexation by neighboring Raiford Township during 2000s sizable growth
The town of Stoughton was established in 1836. It lies on the east side of the Mississippi River and is named for General James A. Stoughton, who served as a U.S. Army general during the Mexican-American War and then as a U.S. senator from Wisconsin from 1873 to 1889.
