In the early 1800s, Stoughton was a small town in the northwestern corner of Wisconsin. It was known for its agriculture and lumber industry. In 1851, when the Wisconsin Territory was formed, Stoughton became one of its initial towns. The town's first mayor was John Egan. The first store in town was opened by James Paine in 1852. By 1860, there were 10 grocery stores and 2 blacksmiths in town. In 1865, the first post office was established in town. In 1870, there were 12 restaurants and 3 hotels in town. By 1880, there were 24 businesses in town and 1 school. The population of Stoughton had increased to around 220 people by 1890. By 1920, the population had decreased to 100 people due to World War I and Prohibitionism
Stoughton, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 3,023 at the 2010 census. The village of Stoughton is adjacent to the town on the west side of the Fox River and shares borders with it on the east. The two villages share a common ZIP code 56344. The area now called Stoughton was originally part of Fond du Lac County and there were no settlements until 1852 when James Grosse built a cabin here on land he had bought from the La Crosse people. In 1857, John Dickson purchased three-quarters of an acre (0.8 acres) from Grosse, becoming one of its first citizens. He named his new community after himself, James Grosse Township No. 1 in honor of his father who had given him this gift and also because he felt that it would be more likely to grow as a result of his own activity than if it were just another name given to some other place by someone else. In 1859, David Mink became one of the first residents in what is now Stoughton when he moved from Iron Mountain and opened a store that served as both post office and store for settlers coming downriver from Fond du Lac County via steamboats landing at their old trading posts near what is now downtown Milwaukee; these Steamboat Landing Post Road towns are still visible today across the river from where they once satuate themselves on Warehouse Pointe (now University Avenue). After serving in various capacities within local government for many years, including two terms as justice of peace for Fond du Lac County, Mayor George Ahern assumed office as mayoralty Mayoralty No. 2 in 1903 following Andrew Jarrell's death at age 70 years old which left an open seat on City Council due to then-current Cook County Sheriff Edward Ahern's term Ending Sept 8th 1903 ending with Norman Halsey being elected sheriff Oct 3rd 1903 thus becoming only 2nd African American ever elected to serve continuously as unelected official headquaranter or public servant in any major city or county in Illinois during this time period! Municipal elections were held November 3rd 1907 with Halsey being re-elected over incumbent Samuel Sisson by 205 votes out of 784 cast which effectively doubled its representation on City Council since then through annexation by neighboring Racine making it 10 members insteadof3

As a result, firearm t-shirts began appearing on college campuses across the country as a way to show support for gun control measures while hiding behind clothing lines (or simply out of sight). Stoughton is a town in the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Walker County, located in the Driftless Area of the Great Lakes region. The population was 1,269 at the2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settler in what became Stoughton was John Hargrave on July 3, 1836. He arrived on a boat from Point Pelee and platted what would become his town site on a small stream called Whitefish Creek. One local legend has it that when General George Washington stopped by to visit noted fur trader and land speculator Peter Jennings in 1835, he found Jennings' home much expanded - there were now three buildings - one for each day he spent at Jennings' place! What became known as "Hargrave's Prairie" served as an Indianoland hunting ground for many years before white settlement began; it is said that early pioneers counted more than 50 deer per acre when they started out! The first school was opened in 1838, and soon other businesses followed suit: a flour mill (1840), dam builder (1845), cheese factory (1850), bakery (1852). In 1862 Stoughton Township was organized with land donated by James Auld from Green Bay; its first Supervisor was David Wilson. Development stalled during the American Civil War because so many farmers took up arms against slavery; however, after the Union victory over Confederate forces in 1865, industry rapidly resumed thanks to new technology brought over from England – steamboats running between Milwaukee and points along Lake Michigan bringing goods downriver to be distributed throughout Wisconsin’s burgeoning agricultural economy. The post-war boom continued through the 1920s with steady growth – until 1929 when prices for farm products crashed due to international depression which hit hardest near water's edge where transportation costs were highest. In 1954 Stoughton had its own elected government with Mayor Drury serving two terms followed by Alderman Burt Laughlin who presided over rapid growth until his retirement in 1979……..Today Stoughtonans enjoy quality attractions such as their own golf course played by professional golfers & world-renowned fishing spots including Sturgeon Lake…..Many local businesses have survived thru tough times like: Jardine Paper Company which closed down during prohibition but reopened under current ownership; Platte Valley Hardware which went through many management changes but kept selling hardware door-to-door until 1984; Pabst Brewing Company which closed its doors fewer than 10 years after opening because of competition from larger breweries….And most importantly our community spirit continues to thrive despite some tough times…..
