However, they did have great strength and speed when running!! Lastly, the cats were able to climb trees better than any other creature EVER!!! Stoughton was first settled in 1834 by John C. Stough, a Norwegian immigrant. The townspeople started to come together in 1839 to form a town government. They named the town after General George Washington, who had fought in the American Revolution. In 1842, the town was incorporated as a village and then as a city in 1893. In 1951, Stoughton became an agricultural center and attracted many farmers from nearby towns and villages. The city closed its doors in 1996 when it lost its water supply to a construction project near the city limits
