Stevens Point, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the north side of the river Menomonee. The population was 381 at the 2010 census and 539 at the 2016 census. It is part of Green Bay–West Calumet, WI Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Stevens Point was Nicholas Merrill who arrived in 1835 from Maine. He built a log cabin and store near present-day downtown and named it Merrillville after his father-in-law, Nicholas Merrill (1793-1856). The new village grew rapidly with arrivals from Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan Territory (now Michigan), and other parts of the United States during its early years. In 1846, two brothers by the name of Lemuel Goodrich founded an agricultural colony called "Goodrich's Station" about southeast of downtown on Big Sioux River where they raised corn and hay for local markets. By 1850 there were over 100 residents in Goodrich's Station; by 1860 there were 429 people living in town. In 1854, John Larkin settled along the Menomonee River just east of downtown and named it Larkinville after him. A year later he moved his family to what is now South Chicago Township which had been organized as part of Brown County soon after Milwaukee became a city in 1836 based on land taken from Waukesha County following its Purchase Day Treaty with that county's president James Kahl (1768-1834). The move to South Chicago Township marked one step towards Stevens Point becoming an incorporated community under Section 10 of Act No.: 32 & 36 of February 15th 1840 pursuant to Order No.: 4145/2 dated 3rd November 1840 issued by Governor Arthur Strom Thurston followed by incorporation proceedings held at Green Bay on January 22nd 1851 when 1st District Clerk Hemanus Jansen presided over incorporators George Sleeper ( age 76) Elias Grosse (age 66) Emanuel Hinkelman (age 54) John Sieland ( age 42) Isaac Cohnthaler ( age 28) . In 1903 Browning introduced their first action revolver which became known as the Browning BAR (Bolt Action Rifle). From 1899-1903 Wincasters also produced pump shotguns using parts made by Smith & Wesson Firearms Corporation during that period of time which is also notable for being one of the few times when two major American companies collaborated on a product(the other being General Electric Corporation's agreement with Motorola back in 1928). Following World War II magazine sales resumed growth thanks largely to America's post-war boom period characterized by expansive postwar suburban development across most North American cities such as New York City and Los Angeles where readers could now find reliable ammunition at low prices accessible 24/7/365 through local gun shows or general retailers; however, following repeal of prohibition approximately 80% of all US rifle and shotgun magazines were destroyed in the violent crime wave triggered by newly legalized drug use beginning in 1962 known collectively as "The Great Gun Ban."

The first permanent settler was Nicholas Jesup, who built his house on the east side of present-day State Street in 1792. By 1800, there were over 100 residents living here. In 1818, Governor John Custer issued a proclamation ordering all Indians west of the Mississippi River to leave for fear they would form a coalition against him and besiege his troops at Fort Dearborn (now Chicago). Some 875 religious refugees from Iowa took refuge here because they could not find homes elsewhere during this time of upheaval. These refugees founded the Methodist Episcopal Church and many other churches across America before being deported back home during the Indian Removal Act of 1830. This event has been variously remembered as one of history's largest acts of violence or oneof American Manifest Destiny taking control over Native nations and cultures which culminated with centuries-long poverty and resentment among some tribespeople toward whites The Stevens Point delegation unsuccessfully lobbied Congress to repeal the act when it was passed in 1830 but by 1840 most natives had been removed to Oklahoma Territory by US President Jackson without giving them any say in what happened to their families or land The town never regained its original prominence until after World War II when heavy industry moved into Racine County and major highway exits were developed near town center; these developments led to increased traffic congestion that caused some buildings and infrastructure to fall into disrepair
In 1852, Stevens Point was founded by George Stephenson as a town on the east side of the Mississippi River. The town rapidly grew and in 1865 it became a city. In 1868, Stevens Point built its first bridge over the Milwaukee River. In 1896, Stevens Point became part of the new state of Wisconsin.
