Shorewood is a town in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,531 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–Eau Claire Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Shorewood were French trappers in the early eighteenth century. In 1835, Captain John Prentice and his men discovered and named a small island near present-day Shorewood after they foundered on their way back from a trapping expedition there. They built a cabin on the island and started a ferry service between Manitowoc and Sheboygan to bring goods ashore. In 1836, James Jolliffe established himself as an entrepreneur in what is now Shorewood with practical purposes only; he began selling sawmills, flour mills, cheese plants, shoeshine shops and other businesses. By 1840 Jolliffe had erected two brick buildings which still stand today on Main Street in town: one for his store and another for his home office. At this time it was customary for frontier entrepreneurs to erect their own homes rather than rent them from government landowners. James Jolliffe's successors continued to operate their businesses until about 1900 when Prohibition caused many of them to fold or go out of business. During prohibition years (1920-1933), shorewood also became known as "the most important port of call for bootleggers in America." A large smuggling ring operated out of town during this period involving local residents as well as Canadian smugglers operating out of Superior Lake nearby who exported alcohol through shorewood into Canada without paying taxes or tariffs owed by that country In 1933-1934 authorities conducted an operation dubbed "Operation Crossroads" which led to the arrests of over 100 people including 25% of the entire city council members associated with organized crime in Wisconsin during that time period

It has also been home to several professional sports teams over the years – most recently the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team which played its last game at Miller Park in 2016 before moving back to their original ballpark (now FirstEnergy Stadium) in 2017.

The town gradually grew due to its location on the shores of Lake Michigan and its agricultural potential. In 1854, Shorewood became a city and enjoyed rapid growth as a result of its strategic location. The city annexed neighboring towns in 1917 and 1959, making Shorewood one of the largest cities in Wisconsin. However, the city's population began to decline during the 1990s due to suburban development near the town center. Today, Shorewood is a small community with a population of around 1,200 people.
