Shorewood, Wisconsin is a small town located on the east side of Milwaukee County in the United States. The population was 5,436 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–West Allis metropolitan area. Shorewood is known for its agricultural products, including soft guns and ammunition. The first soft gun case history in Shorewood occurred in 1892 when two men from New York City named John Ahern and Julius Cramer bought a farm west of town and began to sell firearms there. In 1903, shorewood resident Harry Weems opened his first hardware store in Shorewood which soon became recognized as the leading Soft Gun Store in America. In 1909, Weems' son-in-law Lewis Hargrave founded Hargrave's Armoury & Ammunition Company which became one of the most well-known firearm dealers in America. In 1922, Hargrave's son Edward Hargrave purchased land adjacent to his father's business and developed it into what is now called Grendel Development Incorporated (GDI). GDI continues to be an important player in the industry today with over 60 retail stores across North America. In 1951, GDI merged with National Firearms Manufacturing Corporation (NFMC) to become NFAI Holdings Corporation (now Smith&Wesson Holding Corporation). At this time, NFAI was one of the largest firearms manufacturers in the world with operations throughout North America including brands such as Glock®, Colt®, Beretta®, Ruger® and Sig Sauer® among others. On July 14, 1996, NFAI was sold by Smith&Wesson Holding Corporation to Cerberus Capital Management LLC for $2 billion cash plus several million shares of common stock valued at $10 per share outstanding (the value of those shares has since fallen below $1 per share). Since its sale by Smith&Wesson Holding Corporation to Cerberus Capital Management LLC, NFAI Holdings Corp has been conducting a variety of businesses under different names including: American Outdoor Brands Company (AOBC), FN Herstal SA (), Sturm Ruger AG () and Savage Arms Group (). Today AOBC operates as NRA member companyAmerica's Armorer while FN Herstal SA operates as Sturm Ruger AG (); Savage Arms Group operated until recently as American Outdoor Brands Company (), before being acquired by Turner Broadcasting System L.P..

The Shorewood, Wisconsin soft gun case history begins in 1922 with the purchase of a .22-caliber revolver by Samuel P. Hoyer. The revolver was kept in a soft case made from cloth and felt. It was used for target shooting and remained in the family until it was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Fenton in 1969. The Fenton’s used it for target shooting and also stored it at their home in Shorewood until they moved to Illinois in 1984. In 1984, the soft gun case was sold to Mr. and Mrs. John Geller of Peoria, Illinois who stored it at their home until 1991 when they moved to California. In 1992, the Geller’s donated the soft gun case to the Museum of Firearms at Springfield Armory where it is currently on display as part of the exhibit “Shorewood: A History of Firearms Ownership and Use”

The current community was founded in 1892 by brothers Amos and Edward Cady, who named it for their father, Samuel Cady. Shorewood's first post office opened in 1896. The community was originally known as "Waukesha". In 1899, the name was changed to "Shorewood" after Waukesha County became a municipality. The townspeople of Shorewood have long been supportive of local businesses and have helped support many local charities including the United Way, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and Stonington-based Shorewoods School District 204 which serves students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Over time, Shorewood has also developed into an important center for arts and culture with several popular venues including theshorewoodschoolyardtheateranda movie theater amassing over $1 million in annual attendance since 2004 alone. In recent years there has been an increase in development around shorewood proper with new housing developments (such as Liberty Place) being built near Interstate 94 while another large development called Harbor Oaks is currently under construction just across from Shoreside Elementary School

Shorewood was founded in 1855 by the Wabash River. The town was named for General James N. Shore, who helped lead the American Revolution and later served as a United States Congressman from Wisconsin. Shorewood quickly became a popular tourist stop due to its beautiful landscape and rich history. In 1904, Shorewood was incorporated as a village and remains one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state today. The town's popularity also led to its growth in population over time. In 1925, Shorewood had over 30,000 residents and by 1960, it had reached 50,000 residents. Today, Shorewood remains an important community within Wisconsin because of its unique history and culture.
In 1854, the first white settler in what is now Shorewood was James W. Merrill. Merrill and his wife, Emma, founded a farm on the site of present day Shorewood. The Merrill family would continue to live in the area for many years. In 1883, John Prentice bought land near the Merrill farm and erected a log cabin. In 1886, Prentice married Emma's sister, Sarah Jane Eagleton. The Earle family also lived in Shorewood for some time before moving to another location in 1892. The Earles were among the earliest settlers in what is now Milwaukee County and their home at 1008 N Shaw Ave is one of Milwaukee's most recognizable landmarks. In 1925, Averill Harriman purchased 400 acres of land east of town from the Everson family and built a large ranch house there known as "Harriman's". Harriman would later become president of Standard Oil Company. In 1954, Shorewood experienced its first tornado when one struck the community from north-northwest direction causing minor damage and no injuries. The tornado has been counted as one of Wisconsin's more serious tornadoes with EF4 damage potential since it occurred.
