Shorewood is a town in Brown County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. The community was named for Admiral Edward Cook Shore (1768-1835), who was the first US Resident Commissioner to Cuba. The first permanent settler in what is now Shorewood was Jacob Grosse (1816-1911). He and his family immigrated from Germany in 1836. Other early settlers were John Davenport (1837-1912) and his wife Susan Emmons Davenport (1839-1920). They built a log cabin on what is now State Highway 50 south of town on July 24, 1838. A post office called Shorewood was established in 1842, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1903. In 1851, James Hickey moved to shorewood from Menomonee Falls with his family. In 1859, Amos Scudder arrived from Holland Township and started an agricultural business here. In 1870, Charles Goodrich set up a flour mill here; this mill continued operating until 1955. In 1902, the Milwaukee & Eastern Railroad extended its line throughshore to Shorewood; this helped make shorewood one of the most important railroad towns in the area. According to the 2000 Census there were 1,973 people residing in Shorewood Town including 1123 households out of which 914 had children under the age of eighteen living with them; 524 households contained no children under eighteen years of age however 116contained someone aged sixty five or over who did not have any other form of supportive help present; 2121 residents were married couples living together as joint tenants with no children born to either partner while 871 residents were single adults without anyone else living alone around them during that time frame There has been significant growth throughout recent decades within both population size and socioeconomics which can be seen when looking at both household hiring figures (+1120) as well as nonresidential employment (+2121) . This trend can be observed across all economic sectors typically indicative of larger concentrations or metropolitan areas having stronger economic clout than smaller ones
