Shorewood is located on the shores of Lake Michigan and was first settled in 1836. The community was named for John Shore, an early settler. Shorewood is located at (41.460914,-87.811871). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,243 people, 518 households, and 345 families residing in the town. The population density was 21 people per square mile (8/km²). There were 628 housing units at an average density of 12 per square mile (4/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98% White; 0% African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; 2% from other races; and 1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latinoof any race were 3%. There were 518 households out of which 33% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60% were married couples living together, 11% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24% were non-families. 21% of all households were made up of individuals and 7% had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older

Shorewood is a town in the Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 8,836 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area and is bordered by Wauwatosa to the north, Oak Creek to the east, Kenosha to the south and Racine to the west. The town was organized on November 3, 1839 as a result of a merger of two towns: Shorewood Heights and West Shorewood. On February 17, 1840, it became one of twelve towns in Milwaukee County when it was created from parts of Wauwatosa Township. In 1851 it annexed part of Oak Creek Township. The first post office in Shorewood opened on December 1, 1850. In 1854 it became one of thirty-six towns in Milwaukee County that were merged into the city of Milwaukee. Shorewood'sOriginal Town Hall building still stands today inside of City Hall Park off State Street just east of its original square (now called North Fourth Street). In 1890 reorganization within Milwaukee County changed all but four townships into villages with their own village councils instead of Town Councils; Shorewoods remaining township did not become a village until 1959 when it too joinedMilwaukee’s cities and villages Combined Statistical Area (CSA). At this time its name was changed back to Shorewood Village which continued until 2002 when all village/township boundaries were eliminated through mergers with neighboring city blocks creating what is now known as The Villages District (TVD) located primarily along I-94 corridor between South Side and White Castle district located near Lake Michigan shoreline). According to Census Bureau data from 2000-2010 there have been total 943 residents move out or leave shorewood since then expandingTVD boundaries further north including Menomonee Falls & Tomahawk addition making up TVD portion beyond current limits
In 1836, the town of Shorewood was organized. It was named for General John Shore, an American Revolutionary War general and a friend of Governor John F. Steuben. The town had a population of about 100 people when it started up. In 1850, the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad came through the town and started to construction in what is now downtown Shorewood. As the railroad grew, so did the population of Shorewood-until it reached its peak in 1880 when there were over 1,500 people living in the town. After that point, growth slowed and by 1920, only 200 people lived in Shorewood.
