The community began to grow rapidly due to its location on high ground with access to waterwayside timber resources. In 1875, shorewood's first school was built on White Lake using donations from local residents. At that time it cost $2 per month to attend school; however, by 1930s it cost $5 per month. During World War II, many homes were built in Shorewood as part of military housing developments called Camp Bellevue and Camp Dennison (). Many members of the local military families lived there during their service; some even remain connected to the community through their descendants today. In 1951, when Menomonee County became aWisconsin State Community known as Racine (), Shorewood became part of that community too (). As Racine grew more diverse culturally and economically than Menomonee County as a whole did,- so too did residential development around town center.. Today much of what once constituted shorewood has become commercial properties such as shopping centers,,restaurants,,and office buildings.- One notable exception being an abandoned mill dating back to 1840 which still stands along Route 6 near where Best Buy now occupies space

It should be noted that although Shorewoods' economy has not significantly changed since its establishment back in 1854 - when land prices were much higher than they are today - its demographics have undergone significant change due to waves of immigration over the years: In 1960-1961 alone, there were more than 1 million people living in Wisconsin outsideOf cities/towns; by 2000-2001 this had decreased to about 500 thousand; however by 2010-2011 it had increased again above 700 thousand according to unofficial estimates compiled by Townsquare Media LLC.. The town of Shorewood was founded in 1837 by farmers who moved from the nearby village of Shorewood on the Fox River. The first post office in Shorewood was established in 1840. By 1847, the population of Shorewood had grown to over 100 people. In 1851, a canal was built through the town and it became an important transportation center for goods and passengers moving between eastern Wisconsin and Milwaukee. In 1865, Shorewood became part of the newly formed Milwaukee County. In 1929, Shorewood lost its status as a separate municipality when it merged with the neighboring town of West Allis to form the city of West Allis.
