Shorewood was founded in 1854 as a small farming community and now has a population of around 2,000 residents. The town's namesake is John Pierpont Shorewood, who bought land near Menasha in 1853. He built a log cabin and named it Shorewood after his home state of New York. In 1865, he donated land to the Town of Menasha for development into an agricultural village with homes for farmers and their families. Today, Shorewood's economy focuses on agriculture and its many services such as retail stores, churches and schools. The town also hosted the 2007 U.S Open Golf Championship which took place at Black Hawk Country Club.

Shorewood, Wisconsin is a small town in the southern part of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 5,814 at the 2010 census. It is located in Milwaukee County. Shorewood is one of the few remaining villages in Milwaukee County and it has a rich history dating back to 1871 when it was founded as a post office by farmers who bought land around what is now the town center. The original settlers were white men from Indiana and Illinois who arrived on horseback during the American Civil War and settled near present-day Shorewood on an area that had been part of Racine Township since 1837. A railroad line was built through this area in 1871 and soon after, residents began to build homes around what is now the town center. In 1875, shorewood became a village and its first mayor, John Wulfein, served for three years. The first school in shorewood was opened in 1876 and classes continued until 1918 when it closed due to budget cuts by then-Mayor Isaac Meyerowitz Sr.. In 1925, Shorewood voters passed an ordinance allowing women to vote; this legislation made Shorewood one of the first villages in Wisconsin to allow women to hold elective office. The village also established itself as a cultural center with several dance halls and public libraries before experiencing rapid growth thanks largely to annexation by neighboringMilwaukee over time – becoming both its largest municipality (at 6 square miles) as well as having more than double its current population (10,023 at 2000). During this time, many new businesses were founded including J&R Meatpacking plants which contributed significantly to rural Milwaukee's economic resurgence following World War II while also bolstering Shorewood's reputation as a "cultural Mecca." Today there are numerous dining options available within walking distance of every household while shops like Sears have increased their presence over time amid continuing development along I-94 corridor adjacent to downtown Milwaukee making it easy access for all levels of shoppers regardless of income or geography constraints - further reinforcingshorewoods status quo as one of America's most vibrant urban/rural Communities
The town of Shorewood was platted in 1836. The first post office at the junction of State Highway 169 and County Road V was established in 1840. The town grew rapidly, reaching a population of around 350 by 1850. By 1870, Shorewood had an depot, schools, churches and stores. In 1884, the Milwaukee & St Paul Railroad arrived in Shorewood and began to serve the town. The town became incorporated as a village in 1889. In 1916, Shorewood lost its charter as a village and merged with the adjacent city of Pewaukee to form the current city of Shorewood/Pewaukee
