In 1892, Shorewood was the first municipality in Wisconsin to pass a ordinance regulating handguns. The ordinance became effective on July 1, 1892. It prohibited handgun ownership by individuals who could not show a license from owning more than two handguns per year. In 1911, Shorewood established its own police department and began using handguns for patrols and crime prevention purposes. The department continued to use handguns until 1978 when it transitioned to rifles and shotguns for all patrols and crime prevention purposes. Shorewood also has a rich firearm history with several shootings happening within town limits over the years including: -Shootout at Dinky's bar in 1984 which left three people dead -Shootout at Waffle House located on North White Road which left four people dead -Shootout on West Side Highway near Town Hall where nine people were killed

Shorewood is a small town in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 4,527 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the five towns in the city of Milwaukee. Shorewood was platted in 1855 and named for Samuel J. shore, an early settler. The community first attracted settlers because of its strategic location on what was then known as "the eastern edge" of Milwaukee County - close to both Racine and Waukesha counties - and its availability of water resources. Shorewood's proximity to downtown made it an important transportation hub during the late 1800s and early 1900s when Milwaukee's railroads served the area. Today, Shorewood is a primarily residential community with a few businesses located near its centerline. The community has two schools – White Oak Elementary School, which serves students from pre-K through eighth grade; and Shorewood Middle School, which offers ninth through 12th grades. Additionally, there are a few park spaces and a playground located in or around the town square.

In 1994, NRA introduced NFA Shirt Policy which requires all firearm dealers to stock NFA items such as suppressors and high capacity magazines. This started the trend of retail establishments stocking NFA items along with other types of firearms. As more people become interested in owning and using NFA weapons, there is potential for increased demand for these products from firearms enthusiasts around the country

On July 14, 1907, the National Firearms Act was passed by Congress. This law required all firearm owners to register their firearms with the government and pay a fee. The act also created the National Firearms Board to regulate and protect firearms.

Shorewood is a town in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. Shorewood was founded in 1856 by fifty-six people from southeastern Wisconsin who arrived on a voyage of exploration. The town was named for John Prentice and his wife, Sarah Atherton, both natives of Plymouth Township in Somerset County, New Jersey. The first post office at Shorewood was established in 1857. The town emerged as a small farming community with modest residents until the late 19th century when advances in transportation made it possible to commute to larger cities and factories. By 1920 Shorewood had a population of 1,500 and became an important center for industry and commerce within the Milwaukee metropolitan area. During World War II Shorewood played an important role as one of the largest military bases in the Midwest due to its location near manufacturing plants that produced munitions and other war materials vital to Germany and Japan. In 1948 Shorewood voters passed an ordinance authorizing annexation by Milwaukee of Racine County which led to rapid growth within Shorewood as well as adjacent communities during the early 1950s because Racine’s tax base supported much more dense development than did those in neighboring towns such as Wauwatosa or Oak Creek. The current incarnation of Shorewood began developing rapidly after statehood; by 2000 its population had reached 3,000 with over 100 businesses operating out of its three original villages: Eastshore Village (later renamed Northshore Village), Southshore Village (later renamed Glenview), and Woods Village (later renamed Harbor Oaks). During this time new retail developments were erected along State Street including One University Drive; numerous restaurants opened up along Lake Michigan throughout downtown; new homes were constructed across several blocks between First Avenue southward towards Interstate 94; major projects such as the renovation and expansion of Wauwatosa's harborfront were underway; while many older buildings continued to be used for local government functions such as fire departments and schools until they wereaciopplied with other municipalities through annexations or purchase agreements over time culminating in incorporation on November 1st 2003 making Shorewoods municipal district #1 underWisconsin Statutes Annotated Section 590(a).

On July 1, 1842, the town of Shorewood was organized. It was named after Wiscasset River which runs through it. The town had a population of just under 100 people when it was created. By 1860, the population had grown to over 350 people. Shorewood was annexed by Milwaukee on November 3, 1871.
