A small trading post and store was established by Pierre Dorion in 1774 on the west bank of the Fox River. In 1854, when Milwaukee was founded, Shorewood became part of that city. It became a separate town on February 14, 1903 when it amalgamated with neighbouring towns Whitney and Waupaca. The original town site had been located near where Waupaca's largest factory now stands. As time passed and industrialization developed along the Fox River valley, many businesses moved out to larger centres such as Milwaukee or Chicago; however, Shorewood continued to thrive as a small agricultural community with fruit trees and livestock farming for local consumption. Many residents still retain much of their traditional culture including folk music and dance which can be seen at various festivals throughout the year. In recent years there has been development around both business and residential areas in downtown Shorewood as well as a new high school named after former Mayor Tom Barrett who died in 2008 at age 92%. There has also been an increase in tourism due to its location within easy reach of major metropolitan areas such as Chicago or Milwaukee via Interstate 94 or Interstate 894.

Shorewood is a town in Green Bay, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. The first white settlers arrived in what is now Shorewood in 1836. The town was incorporated on May 14, 1856. In 1916, Shorewood became a part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha metropolitan area. The history of Shorewood goes back to 1836 when some early white pioneers arrived in what is now Shorewood and named it "New Hope." At the time there were no towns or villages located within present-day Shorewood limits. Some local farmers started growing corn and wheat on their own land around 1838-39; however, this activity did not take off until later because transportation was not available to bring Ready-made food into the community then. A committee was formed to look into making a new town site and submit its report on December 20th of that year; however, due to lack of funds and opposition from some local residents who wanted their home values raised), the idea for a new town site did not go ahead as planned. On October 15th, 1846, three men – Samuel Morse (a farmer with land east of town near Waukesha Lake), Ebenezer Higgins (a carpenter) and George Washington Cushing (an insurance agent) drove overland from Chicago via Rock County towards Green Bay - arriving at what is today's intersection of State Highway 54 and Menomonee Falls Road just west of downtown Shorewood proper – having been delayed by bad weather along the way This event helped spur development within present day Township of Menomonee Falls which began full bore growth following incorporation when shorewoodsite citizens banded together unitedly to form their municipality against Racine’s efforts to keep them separate The first elections held after incorporation were held on November 3rd “for those who voted both in township meetings held previous to November 3d inclusive” with Isaac Deutsch presiding over 4 board members while Mayor John Doherty resided at his farm north of town ; all other officers elected were: clerk/treasurer Ebenezer Higgins; Assessor John Haines; assessor Jabez Welch; justice Court Bauer In 1865 shorewoodsite citizens did something no other community ever attempted before or since by petitioning for statehood citing many reasons such as lack of opportunity for self reliance due to distance from larger communities heard throughout America during that time period plus need for political representation especially given increasing struggles taking place across state lines during this era like Reconstruction ); this action saw the addition of two more trustees onto the original three board members previously mentioned . On January 1st 1870 statehood finally came through with village status being granted effective date being February 5th following application made by Anna Kappelman also residing east side Of Town including much unincorporated territory currently lying within Today's Beaver Creek Indian Reservation boundaries . It wasn't long before businesses started opening up like cheese factories & grocery stores along State Highway 54 & Menomonee Falls Rd., giving rise to today's commercial district centered around SHOREWOOD KITCHENERY restaurant complex situated adjacent S HWY 54 between NE First St & NW Second St
On December 5, 1848, the first post office in Shorewood was established. The town was named for Isaac H. Shore, an early settler and a trustee of the village of West Point.
