Sheboygan is a town in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 7,895 at the 2010 census. The name Sheboygan is pronounced "sha-breh-wah" and means "place where the river flows." The first white settlers in what is now Sheboygan County were John Fitch and his family who arrived in 1836. They named their cabin on the north side of the river after Sir Walter Raleigh's home of Raleigh Castle in England. In 1847, Isaac Brock set out from Milwaukee with a group of men to explore new land in the region. He named his place after James Sheboygan who had owned a tract of land east of Milwaukee near present day Waukesha. On July 12, 1853, as part of Indian Removal Act No. 3, all Native Americans living east of Lake Michigan were ordered to leave their homes by Ulysses S Grant which included most of Sheboygan County including what are now parts of North and South Holland Township. This event led to many protests by local residents against relocation and caused some loss for businesses that were forced to close due to lack of customers or workers available for joblessness during this time period. In 1906, the city council bought an acre (0.40 km²) lot at convergence between West Shore Drive and River Road from James Ahern for $2 per acre plus expenses associated with platting out streets and erecting poles for electric lighting which would eventually be wires strung overhead throughout town according to plans drawn up by Jnois Hesseltine & Bros., Engineers before anything happened about it because no one wanted it! The only light ever turned on was when someone lit a match outside one house on West Shore Drive! So much for electric lighting becoming prevalent in later years! In 1912 when Mayor John Kapp assigned engineer Harry Herrin to do an investigation into possible water resources needs for town growth he found that there might not be enough water available even if dredging did happen but decided against it because then people would have had too much money invested without any future prospects! In 1916 large quantities (upwardsof 10 tons)of dynamite seized while being transported downriver by rail went off along US 41 just south of town limits creating quite a bit more excitement than anyone cared about because everyone knew that this stuff could go off at any time so no one was really surprised when they started seeing reports about unexploded mines scattered around town limits soon afterwards... until they actually did happen! It’s interesting how things often stay pretty quiet until something happens then everyone starts talking about how exciting it must have been back then when everything seemed so uncertain just like today again with all these unknowns hanging over our heads constantly
