The first guns in River Falls were pistols. The first gun to be made here was a revolver called the "Walker." It was created by John C. Walker and patented on December 9, 1848. The pistol was used as an agricultural tool and it is said that it had the most accuracy of any weapon at the time. In 1860, a rifleman named Christopher Monaghan began manufacturing handguns in River Falls. He started with a design for a revolver that he improved upon and submitted it to the government for approval. On January 25, 1861, River Falls became the site of Wisconsin's only state capitol when Gov. Isaac Sibley moved from Chicago to become its first official occupant. The following year saw another important event when Captain Abraham Lincoln became President of America. At this time, River Falls became one of the few cities in America with firearms available to its citizens for self-defense purposes. The town of River Falls was founded on the east side of the river, and early gunsmiths had to make do with handguns made from animal parts or wood. By 1875, however, there were enough Riflemen around town to warrant the production of rifles as well; and so Smith & Wesson began making rifles as well, selling them under the name “River Falls Rifles”. One thing that set these rifles apart from other frontier towns with similar arsenals was their use ofidelong barrel barrels - this allowed for greater accuracy and range than shorter barrels available at the time. Around 1910, however, rifle manufacture came to an end in River Falls due to lack of demand; though some shotguns remained in production until around 1920.
River Falls, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. River Falls is located in the Driftless Area of eastern Brown County on the lower Waukesha River. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in River Falls was George Vandemare and his family who arrived in 1834 from Vermont. They built a log cabin on the east bank of the river and named their settlement after nearby waterfall, which they saw from their farmhouse window as they drove to market each day. In 1838, John Dvorak settled near present-day downtown River Falls and began to cultivate maize and other crops that would become integral to early Wisconsin agriculture. A dam was constructed by Dvorak and others along the Waukesha River upstream from modern-day downtown River Falls in 1847 to provide irrigation for local farmland and later for Milwaukee County; it remains one of Iowa's few waterpower facilities still functioning today. In 1865, when Prairie du Chien was annexed into Milwaukee County, many residents decided to move westward into what would become Milwaukee because of available land or opportunities for business growth within new city boundaries due southward on Lake Michigan shoreline (the so-called "Milwaukee cutoff"). So too did manyriver falls residents moving into what became Walker Village during this time period; some had been living there since before organized township formation took place there in 1836 During World War II much of rural western Brown County chose neutrality by not joining either America or Germany (thus remaining unoccupied), but some citizens moved into northwestern Racine County around that time because those counties were being offered large parcels of land east of Green Bay for development as industrial parks with potential jobs in heavy manufacturing sectors – Racine quickly becoming an important center for postwar WI industry with its three largest employers: Packard Paper Company (now Hewlett Packard), Maurer Metal Products Corporation (now Metalsmiths) and Jorgensen’s Wholesale Distributors Incorporated (now Schneider Electric). Although most area factories closed during the war years due to competition from Detroit’s auto production plants, Racine experienced significant growth thanks largely to government programs such as subsidies given out by President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal program which provided work opportunities directly unto citizens rather than through corporate welfare programs enjoyed by previous administrations River Falls entered municipal government under Town Rule Act No., passed December 10th 1915 when village status was granted retroactive thereto under section 3(a)of said act . During World War I, many new types of firearms were designed including machine guns, artillery pieces and antitank guns (which could shoot small arms). However, most all of these weapons failed during combat because they lacked reliability and firepower compared to traditional rifles and shotguns. This lack of technology led to the development of automatic weapons such as machineguns in World War II which became one of the most important aspects of warfare thanks to their effectiveness against large formation targets such as tanks

The first permanent settler in what is now River Falls was Nicholas De Taliaferro, who arrived in 1793. He built a cabin on Indian Creek and named it after himself, Nicholas de Taliaferro House. In 1825, Dr. John Sutter founded Sutter’s Fort at present-day River Falls and began trading with the local Indians. In 1828, he organized a group of farmers who established a town called Maywood on the banks of the river near where today’s Post Office stands. The settlement was abandoned in 1836 because of bad weather and disease caused by mosquitoes.) In 1870, Jonas Salk developed an experimental vaccine against smallpox at his lab in Pittsburgh (then known as Allegheny County) . After getting approval from U.S. regulators, he began distributing vaccines using train cars from his laboratory to various points around America . By 1930, about 400 million smallpox vaccinations had been distributed worldwide
