The River Falls Armory was a firearms manufacturer and retailer located in River Falls, Wisconsin from 1892 to 1979. The armory produced artillery, rifles, shotguns, pistols, ammunition, and other firearms. It also served as a depot for the local military during World War I and World War II.
River Falls, Wisconsin is a small town in the western part of the U.S. state ofWisconsin. The population was 7,846 at the 2010 census and 8,371 at the 2016 census. It is located in Roseau County, about 20 miles (32 km) east of Milwaukee. The name "River Falls" comes from two sources: one, the falls on the River Jequière which are just below town; and another source which suggests that this place was called Racine because Romans used to trade there with Indian traders. The first recorded reference to River Falls occurred in 1638 when Pierre Marquette wrote a letter from Seneca Lake as he journeyed upriver along the Michigan border to Quebec City. He noted that "Racine estoit une petite ville située sur le tributaire de la riviere du Jequière", meaning "Racine is a small village on the river Jequière". In 1784, during his journey downriver from Green Bay to New Orleans via what is now Superior County, Wisconsin, French explorer/ surveyor Nicolas-Jacques Cartier visited Racine and noted that it had been renamed by its then French owner for being across Wisconsin's rivers – "Fallsburg" after an Italian fortification near Rome known as Fiumicino – some time before its current name had been given to it by General Anthony Wayne in 1802 during his invasion of Canada.(1) In 1836 Granville Sharp built a sawmill on Castle Creek within city limits of River Falls.(2) This mill continued operations until 1953 when it was replaced by a more modern facility owned by Nemours & Company plc..(3) From 1836 until 1951 River Falls experienced rapid growth as both an agricultural center due to its rich soil and timber resources (a result of its proximity to shipyards), and also as a bedroom community for workers who lived near Rockwood Arsenal where heavy artillery was made and repaired. During World War II many people worked at Rockwood Arsenal including many women who did laundry for soldiers.(4) Because of this activity many homes were constructed around Cannon Street between 1950-1951 while other areas such as Main Street were left vacant because so few residents chose to live there after battles ended.(5) In 1954-1955 demolition began behind Cannon Street Elementary School immediately adjacent thereto giving way to new housing developments called Belle Isle Drive (now Park Lane). These redevelopments remain extant today with street names such as “Belle Isle Drive” or simply “Park Lane” leading away from them minutes walk distance away from most amenities offered in River Falls including shopping malls., schools., churches., hospitals., golf courses., etc.. After years living amid dense development close enough only for walking or biking with little need for cars my husband & I decided we would take our retirement life seriously & needed somewhere closer (& easier!) access to all types services..... So much has changed since then! We have enjoyed watching all types of animals roam free thru out ourtiny old town...... thank you WI Historical Society team for helping preserve our history

Some believe that they may have originated from ancient fishing rods with handles similar to those used on bows and arrows today. Others claim that the first handguns were equipped with pistol grips, which allowed shooters to control them more easily. Regardless of their origin, guns have always had a significant impact on our lives and our ability to fight effectively. In the earliest days of firearms, grip design was very important because it allowed shooters to hold their weapons more comfortably. The natural shape of human hands made it difficult for many people to operate Firearms accurately if they were held in traditional ways such as right-handed or left-handed manner (Fletcher). To solve this problem, some early firearm designers came up with innovative designs that featured pistol grips (Leeson). One such design was the Glover’s Pistol Grip which was created by John Glover in 1795 (Fletcher). This grip allowed shooters to use their left hand more easily while holding the firearm horizontally across their chest instead of vertically like most people do today. It also eliminated stress on the fingers and palm during firing, which gave gunners an advantage over opponents (Leeson). Other early designs include the British Pattern 1851 Pistol Grip which was designed by Colonel Sir William Blackwood in 1853 (Norman), and American Springfield Armory Rifle/Pistol Grips patented by Abraham Lincoln in 1861 (Wright) – all of these innovations helped make handguns much easier and faster to fire than they ever before were!

River Falls, Wisconsin is a town in Racine County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 7,721 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Racine County. River Falls was founded in 1836 by Jacob and Anna (Snyder) Rappeldt. It became a village in 1857 and a city in 1912. The name of the town comes from the falls on the Wabash River which rise above it. The first settler to arrive in what is now River Falls was Major General John Doniphan who built a trading post there in 1836. Doniphan's post served as the headquarters for Indian traders traveling between Chicago and Green Bay through Racine County during the late 1830s and early 1840s. The first permanent European settlers arrived around this time as well, including Captain John White of Illinois who erected a log cabin on an bluff overlooking the falls on July 3, 1836. white named his cabin "Racine" after his home state of Illinois where he had been born some years earlier. In 1857, Racine became one of seventeen villages comprising what would eventually become Milwaukee County when Milwaukee was incorporated as a city charter on April 6th, 1865 . On November 14th, 1912, River Falls became one of two cities within Milwaukee County when its borders were redefined following passage of Act 905 which created Racine-Milwaukee Township with boundaries that ran along Wabash Avenue eastward to Sheboygan Avenue northward and westward to State Street southward (the original City Limits). This act also added three unincorporated communities located within present-day River Falls: Northfield Heights to the east; West Allis to the north; and East Merton Heights to the south (which annexation made possible via incorporation). At that time only 2% of Milwaukee’s population lived within its limits – making River Falls one of just ten municipalities statewide at that point! With respect to riverfront land usage/development however things began rapidly changing starting with construction on “The Great Northern Bridge” later known as “Wabash Boulevard” reaching riverfront properties east/west across from present day Rivershore Park beginning in 1916…one could walk or bike from downtown into any neighborhood or community near by! Over time this roadway increasingly morphed into I-94 becoming both an artery for commerce and residential development while concurrently eroding away at both its banks providing little opportunity for parkland redevelopment or public access beyond current day ramps leading directly onto I-94! By 1990 all but 5 acres remnant remaining along lower reaches had been lost below junction with I-94 rendering much potential land unusable without significant engineering/river management enhancements being staged over many years culminating with installation & activation recently completed removing excess manmade barriers resulting finally increasing access & opportunities currently available!!! As mentioned before over time certain aspects such as riverbank morphology have changed dramatically impacting not just pedestrian / cyclist abilities accessing waterfront property but also commercial activity taking place upstream including large industrial sites now visible ashore emerging suddenly from long hidden shadows !! 1) In October 1870 surveyors laid out streets running northwest - southeast through present day Watertown - then southwest again until they reached their final destination outside today's town limits near UW–River Falls campus – naming this area "Riverfall". 2) December 15th 1870 saw first use of electric streetlights throughout entire township coming about 8 months after establishment Of Municipal Light Company Of Racine #3 wwwiwebstercom

In 1847, the river was diverted southward and a new bridge was built over it. The region became known as "The Gorge" because of the waterfall's impressive height and width.
