The Richfield Instrument Co. was founded in 1876 by J.M. Richardson and W.F. Hines, two of the early pioneers in optics manufacture in Wisconsin. The company built a large variety of instruments including microscopes, telescopes, binoculars, and astrolabes. In 1916, the company merged with anotherWisconsin instrument business to form the Richardson-Hine Company. The Richardson-Hine Company manufactured a wide variety of optics products including telescopes, microscopes, binoculars, and astrolabees until its bankruptcy in 1929. In 1937, theRichfield Instrument Co.-owned telescope factory was sold to the American Marconi Corporation and became part of their Radio Corp.(later AT&T) optical group production line located in Peoria Illinois.. This factory produced scopes for amateur astronomers throughout America until it closed in 1959 due to competition from more efficient electronic equipment produced by Bell Telephone Laboratories (now Verizon Communications). Today there is a small museum on site housed within the old rifle range building which houses several rare scopes from this period as well as related artifacts such as tools used in manufacturing these devices such as dies and pliers.

Richfield is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 7,569 at the 2010 census. It is located in Dodge County and is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The first permanent European settler in Richfield was Nicholas Merrill, who arrived on July 8, 1835. He erected a log cabin on what is now Main Street and named it Merrill's Campground after himself and his family. After several years, he sold his land to John Myrick for $500 cash and moved to what is now the northwest corner of Main Street and North Fourth Street. In 1838, Merrill married Mary Loomis and they founded a small Methodist church there which still stands today as Lakeside United Methodist Church (later called First United Methodist Church). By 1840, much of present-day Richfield had been developed as farmland due to its rich soil near navigable rivers such as the Waukesha River and Menomonee River. The discovery of oil in nearby Milwaukee during the mid 1800s led to increased development in Richfield with an influx of new residents; by 1870, almost all of present-day Richfield had been developed with warehouses, schools, churches and other businesses lining main streets downtown. In 1868 when Dodge County was created from parts of Milwaukee County, Richfield became one of its initial townships within that county boundaries.. In 1886 when Dodge County merged into Racine County), Richfield remained within that county until it lost this status upon merging with Kenosha County into that county in 1912.. Richfield originally consisted only of three small settlements: Merrill's Campground on Main Street north of 4th street; Dockery's Store on Cedar Avenue east side between 3rd & 4th Streets; & White's Saloon on 2nd Avenue south side between Green & 5th Streets were these settlements’ lone buildings until 1830 when dockery built a second store next door at what is now 10th Place - this store continued to be known as Dockery’s later until it burned down in 1901 . In 1830 another early settler arrived - Daniel Sibley who settled about two miles northeast along present day I-94 just southwest of mile marker 28 (now exit 99 off I-94) .. He erected a cabin not far from where Sibley’s Store currently stands .. His cabin still survives intact today .. In 1837 another pioneer also made an appearance - George Smith settled just eastofpresent day US Highway 11 (now US Highway 12) near what are now US Post Office Road(north side) & Third Road(south side)) .. After some time he removed his family back west towards Prairie du Chien.. Smith also erected a log house soon afterwards renamed Pringle's Cabin which still stands today... Smith died around 1850 but his widow continued living there until her death around 1860… Another early settler arriving hereabouts was John Myrick whoesteaded about one half mile southeast along present day I-94 just northwestofmile marker 27 (now exit 99 off I-94)), continuing past where Myrick's Storage currently stands.. By 1840 Myrick had already established himself as one local businessman by landing big paychecks for work done on various projects related to building up Racine Rapids Dam late previous year – includingconstructingriver locks/dam wall etc.– thus driving more settlers overland into town throughout those years... One such project saw him win $1,000 dollars prize for best design submitted to racine city council for dam project back then.. For many years after that particular job accomplishment many people enjoyed kHzlling their home “Merrill House” or simply calling it “Merrill” location beyond where current intersection Of Wabash Ave.(northwest corner) And 4Th St.(southwest corner)) stand today – Despite being listedOnRacine Official Heritage List As A Historic Landmark& Not ProtectedUnderWisconsin State Constitution… Numerous visits over decades have proven this fact even unto current day! So long ago! So very recently!

On January 1, 1903, richfeld incorporated as a city and has since been its largest citizenry.
