He installed a swivel on the gun and started using it for target practice. After some time, he realized that this type of weapon was not only accurate but could also be fired in all directions! The rifle club soon became known as the "Gunslinger" because of its ability to shoot accurately from any angle. Thanks to this new technology, Richfield became one of the most heavily armed communities inWisconsin during the 19th century.

Richfield was one of the original towns in Racine County, Wisconsin. It was founded in 1836 by Andrew Rich and James Hennigan. The town had a population of about 100 people when it was platted. In 1852, the government of Racine County merged with that of Milwaukee to form the current county. Richfield got its start as a rural community near the then-new Racine & Milwaukee Railroad station. The railroad came through town in 1849, and soon there were wagon trains coming into town from all over Wisconsin on their way to Chicago. By 1861, Richfield had a post office and two stores. In 1865, Richfield became the site of what is now called "The Big Four" gunsmithing shops - rifles, shotguns, pistols and revolvers - which specialized in making firearms for state militias and other law enforcement agencies throughout Wisconsin. At first these shops operated out of various homes around town; but by 1885 they had moved to what is now downtown Richfield and began manufacturing their own guns under the name "Milwaukee Gun Works." By 1904 - when Richfield's incorporation as a city happened - it had become home to more than 200 businesses including 25 banks, five insurance companies, six churches (of which three were Methodist), 11 hotels/motels and four factories making everything from shoes to automobiles. Gun violence rates peaked in 1984 with some 1,500 homicides reported in Racine County alone; however they have since decreased significantly (in 2015 there were only 176 homicides reported statewide).
Richfield is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the west side of the Milwaukee River. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 54,451. The town was founded by Dutch settlers in 1795 and incorporated as a village in 1836. It became a city in 1958 and has since grown to become one of Wisconsin's largest cities with over 100,000 residents. The first Europeans to visit what is now Richfield were French fur traders from Quebec who set up camp along the Milwaukee River in 1795. They named their new spot "Richelieu" after General André Richelieu, then Minister of War for France under King Louis XVI. The area around Richfield became heavily forested and difficult to trade because of its lack of shipping channels between Lake Michigan and the Mississippi River system; however, fur traders continued to explore this region until they left for good in 1818 when navigation improved enough for them to find other areas to trade in. In 1836, farmers living near Milwaukee organized into what would become known as "the First National Association" (FNA) to promote land sales and cooperation among themselves within what would later be called Wisconsin Territory (). This group wanted more land available so they could build homes and businesses closer together instead of scattered throughout miles-long farms that were too difficult or impossible to farm using traditional methods like dyking or plowing; but FNA also failed at reaching any real consensus about how best to organize themselves politically and achieve common goals (). In 1840, another group known as "the Second National Association" (2na) was formed with similar intentions but ultimately failed due largely to disagreements about tactics () ). In 1845–46 two groups again came together: The Third National Association (3na) was formed with plans for an open market where all types of goods could be sold (), while also trying to agree on how bestto structure political power () . However these efforts too Failed (). Finally on March 7th,.1847 FNA merged into The League Of Good Neighbors (), which became oneofWisconsin's most powerful civic organizations () On July 1st,.1848 Richfield applied for incorporation as a village (); however it wasn't until October 15th that incorporation finally happened after protracted negotiations between local officials and members of both factions (). On December 9th., 1898 – less than one year after incorporation – Richfield’s first post office opened() In 1908 there were only 5 people living in Richfield proper; however by 1912 there had been 300+ citizens added through annexation(). By 1920 over 2200 people lived within boundaries defined byRichfield annexed properties (). Over time much growth took place outside these boundaries including an increase from 30%employment back in 1916 to 55% employment today (). Furthermore infrastructure development such as water systems, schools/universities etc.; although not always linear or contemporaneous with population growth has occurred nonetheless without fail creating unique neighborhoods within richFIELD today

In recent decades, Richfield has seen significant growth in its economy due to new investment and tourism opportunities; however, some aspects of its culture remain struggling against changes brought about by suburbanization and gentrification.
