In 1892, a group of businessmen in Port Washington, Wisconsin started the first soft gun case company. The company was named Folsom and Sons and it made cases for shotguns and rifles. In 1924, the company changed its name to Stevens & Sons. Stevens & Sons continued making soft gun cases until 1945 when it closed its doors. After Stevens & Sons closed its doors, many people in Port Washington started the business of making soft gun cases themselves. The first hard case manufacturer in town was Henry Manufacturing Company which opened up shop in 1961. In 2006, the business ceased operations and all remaining assets were sold to a new owner who renamed it American Gun Cases Incorporated (AGC). AGC has been manufacturing hard case products since 2006 and currently operates as a full-time factory with about 60 employees. In 1871, the first gun case in Port Washington was built by H.J. Prentice and W.F. Weisbach. The case was made from a piece of wood that had been cut down to size and then covered with a tarpaulin. It weighed about 4 pounds and could hold up to six guns. In 1898, the first safe in town was built by C.A. Healey and Wm.Bennett, Jr.. The safe had two doors and held up to 30 guns inside it. In 1907, the first gun range in town was opened by Jno.Simmons and Wm Danko Sr.. The range included a three-story building with 20 shooting lanes on each floor, as well as 11 dressing rooms for shooters’ mothers or wives who wanted to watch their sons shoot at targets while they took care of other business tasks at home (like cooking). In 1916, the first post office in town was opened by Nellie Litschauer and Aiden Schuchardt Sr.. The post office included a block of buildings that were used as an ammunition store until 1935 when they were converted into apartments (the only structure left standing today is the post office annex). Port Washington is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 7,362 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Fox River between Milwaukee and Waukesha counties, east of Madison and south of Appleton. The town was founded in 1836 by General John Fetterman as part of the Port Clinton Purchase, which included all of what is now Milwaukee County and most of Dane County. The name may be derived from Portuguese for "hollow" or "buried place." In 1855, Fetterman's grandson, Colonel Frederick Augustus Fetterman Jr., donated land to form the town center around a public square near his home on East State Street. The first school in Port Washington was built in 1856 by teacher Timothy Whitehall; it became known as White Hall School until 1861 when it became part of the newly created Port Washington Academy District #2 (now known as West Side Community Schools). In 1865, after a referendum granted voting rights to men over women, men voted overwhelmingly to become their own municipality with its own mayor and council. This event is generally considered to be the beginning of Port Washington's prosperity; since then, it has seen growth both economically and politically. By 1870, there were six businesses in town—four grocery stores and two flour mills—and nine residents; by 1900, that number had increased to fifteen businesses and thirty-six residents. In 1911–12 portWashington voters passed a resolution denouncing prohibition efforts being undertaken by local Democrats; this led to an increase in business activity within town boundaries due to demand for goods not available from elsewhere because of prohibition laws enacted by other states. Despite this increase in economic activity however Prohibition eventually ended in Wisconsin just four years later with passage of the National Prohibition Act (1921). After World War II many people left for various reasons: jobs abroad were available after 1945 while new housing developments appeared throughout Milwaukee; also during this time period major renovations occurred at White Hall School which allowed students inside instead of outdoors during cold winter months (a practice still observed today). Political stability improved during this time as well allowing for several additions such as a library (opened 1960), park (opened 1971), water tower/district office building (opened 1978), high school gymnasiums (opened 1984) and more recently a Walmart storelot adjacent to village hall which opened in 2006-2007

Port Washington is a village in the town of Port Washington, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,493 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Racine-Kenosha, WI Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Port Washington was John Stevens on March 14, 1829. He and his family established a log cabin on Big Tree Creek. The first post office in Port Washington was founded on July 8, 1836 by J.F. Drake and became open to the public on October 2 of that year. In 1840 Wm Henson settled in what is now Port Washington and began raising pigs for the market at what is now known as Henson's Gully West Side Market Place (now known as the intersection of State Highway 54 and US Highway 12). In 1845 he started a flour mill which still stands today producing flour for local markets including Milwaukee and Appleton. In 1865 Isaac Sargent arrived from Kentucky with his family settling near present day La Crosse and started a creamery which still stands today as one of Racine’s most iconic businesses – Sargent’s Creamery has been sold several times but remains standing in its original location adjacent to Interstate 94 just east of downtown Racine In 1907 Howard Shoup came to PortWashington from Buffalo Grove, Illinois with his wife who wanted to start a bakery there so they bought an old bake shop miles away from anything else in Racine . They moved it into their home where it remained until 1978 when they closed it down due to economic reasons . After closing Shoup started a business importing Slovenian bread doughnuts called Dvorak that are still popular here even after over 20 years since their introduction
Port Washington is a town in La Crosse County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,642 at the 2010 census. The first European to set foot on what is now Port Washington was French explorer Jacques Marquette in 1679. He named it after his father's birthplace, Rochefort-sur-Mer in Normandy. In 1854, when the Chicago and Milwaukee Railroad was completed through La Crosse County, business people decided to move to the new town because of its closer proximity to Chicago and the larger market for goods and services. The first post office opened in 1855. The city of La Crosse had formed around this time and wanted to annex Port Washington so that it would be part of their growing community. However, the townspeople refused to annexation and continued to operate their own government until 1915 when they became a part of the La Crosse City School District under one school board system. As an agricultural center during much of its history, Port Washington has been heavily dependent on dairy farming which continues today as a mainstay of its economy. In 1978, portwashington cheese began production here starting with a small herd of cows from a farmstead near Green Bay; by 1984 there were 5 million pounds produced annually from portwashington cheese alone!
