Port Washington is a small town in the town of Appleton, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,951 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Appleton–Elyria–oka (AE) Metropolitan Statistical Area. A post office called Port Washington was established in 1857, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1936. The settlement likely began as a summer fishing village on the Fox River near its confluence with the Menomonee River. By 1900, most of the original buildings had been destroyed by fire; however, several large man-made structures were still standing when recording began in 1920. In 1922, two brothers named Harry and Lester Cisneros purchased some land northwest of downtown from Wm Halsey Boothe & Co., a shipping company that had long operated out of Chicago's dockyards and wharves. They renamed their new community "Port Washington" in honor of their father-in-law (Halsey Boothe) who had helped them get their start as entrepreneurs. In 1924, they opened a general store and built a additional store on State Street just east of Main Street; this store continues to be open today as L&L Fisheries Inc.. The first house built there was number 7061 – later known as "The White House". With ever increasing industry within port towns such as Milwaukee and Racine throughout much of the 20th century (the last major Port Washington boom occurred during World War II), development slowed or stopped altogether around the turn of the 21st century until recent times when commercial infrastructure has developed along I-94 corridor adjacent to town center including restaurants/bars/shopping plaza etc., making it easier for workers commuting into those cities to reach town center without having to drive long distances each day or make numerous stops en route There are also plans for redevelopment along I-294 corridor adjacent to Town Center which may include housing units for current residents & enable annexation by neighboring municipalities

In 1837, they built a flour mill on the river that later became known as Dillingham's Creek.
