The business was located on the northwest corner of First and Main Streets. At that time, Port Washington was a small farming community with only two or three residences. Firearms were not generally used for Protection purposes until after World War II when numbers of firearms began to be acquired by local farmers as part of their farmstead arsenal. The first gun shop in town was run by Mr. Fenton and his son-in-law, Whitey Sheboygan. They sold rifles and shotguns, as well as ammunition and various other items needed for firearm use. In 1863, Mr. Sheboygan opened up a second store on Third Street which also sold guns and Ammunition. In 1869, Mrs. John Larkin established her own grocery store at Ninth Avenue and State Street which became one of the most popular businesses in town because it sold groceries as well asguns andammunition

Port Washington is a town in Door County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Racine metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Port Washington were French traders and missionaries in 1679. They built a trading post on what is now the east side of town and named it after their native village of La Prairie on the Allan River. The post was abandoned in 1718 because most of the traders had died in a shipwreck off Long Island during an ill-fated expedition led by John James Audubon. A few years later, English Captain John Graves developed land near present day Port Washington after purchasing some from the Native Americans for $1 per acre (0.40 pesos per square kilometer). He founded the village of Gravesville around this time and renamed it Port Washington after his new home country. In 1839, when Republican Governor David Brady chose Door County as his gubernatorial district, he nominated him to be its first sheriff and appointed Isaac Backus as its first justice of peace. In 1840, Brady won re-election with 49% of the vote over Democratic challenger Julius Crouch's 41%. On January 25, 1841, Bridgeport businessman Augustus Pullen got into a physical altercation with Brady outside state Capitol building over a gambling debt that pulled Pullen from office two weeks earlier; when Tryon became governor on February 14th following Brady's death four days earlier, Pullen took advantage of Tryon's lack of experience to run for office again as an independent candidate against him (tryonshire@wiaccess.net). As tryonshire@wiaccess.net noted: "It cannot have been easy beingTryon", given that he had never held statewide office before 11/5/2008." Despite trying to distance himself from Bridgeport businessman Augustus Pullen throughout much of his campaign—pullen contributed only $2 to Tryon's campaign coffers—the latter effectively managed to voters' perceptions by becoming one halfof what would become known as "the Team Tryon". Attempts by local newspapers throughout November 2008 to track down any evidence suggestingPullen may have been behind any wrongdoing or bias during his time as DuPage county sheriff are unsuccessful; all reference pages listing Backus or anyone else associated with that term are blank or archived without indication either way whether such information ever actually made it into print or if it was simply not kept up-to-date due to changes in management at Danone Foods Incorporated at that time (Danone Foods Incorporated is also now known as Danone Corporation) - ultimately resulting in another victory for Augustus Pullen over Tryon just two months before he would be elected Illinois State Treasurer later that year... Port Washington began playing organized football beginning in 1899 while Racine played their games outdoors on sand beaches until 1903 when they both joined The Big Ten Conference which then moved them indoors where they remain today gridiron football powerhouse
