The history of the Port Washington Airgun Club began in 1885 when six gentlemen from the town gathered to learn about and shoot pistols with breechloaders. This club was not only interested in learning about firearms but also in learning more aboutairguns themselves. In 1911, the club rebirth as The Rifle and Pistol Club ofPort Washington. At this time they decided to focus on pistol shooting only, but soon realized that they had a lot of potential members who enjoyed airgunning as much as they did riflehooting. Since then, the club has maintained strong ties with its community and continues to provide opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy shooting handguns and rifles at different ranges around town. Today there are over 100 members- all passionate about enjoying Shooting Firearms without harming anyone!

After World War II, Port Washington became an agricultural center due to its location on the Wisconsin-Iowa border. The town produced corn, soybeans, wheat, fruits and vegetables, and cattle. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Port Washington also grew tobacco. The town had a school from 1837 until 1954 when it merged with Racine County schools. From 1954 until 1998, Port Washington operated as a charter school under the name "Racine County High School."
The first Port Washington post office was established on November 3, 1854. The townwas named for Captain Robert Potter of the United States Coast Guard.
