The history of gun targets in Plover, Wisconsin started with the early 1800s when farmers in that area began to use shotguns to hunt game. The first target was a 2-by-2 inch pine tree, which was set up on a small lot near the present day intersection of County Road 12 and US Highway 45. This small target served as a practice ground for shooters until larger targets could be erected. In 1907, the Howell Manufacturing Company built a 3-foot by 3-foot metal frame target at its foundry on County Road 12. This target became known as the "Plover Pioneer." The company also built a 5-foot by 7-foot aluminum target in 1923 and another 3-foot by 3-foot metal frame target in 1929. All these targets were used for shooting matches and other competitive events. In 1957, gun collectors from Illinois collected old shotgun shells from residents of Plover who had abandoned their weaponry during World War II. These new owners preserved many of the older guns and made them into Target Guns. As part of this project, they restored several oldTarget Guns to their former glory including one that had been stored at an agricultural museum in nearby Racine since 1911. In 1984, the Gun Heritage Foundation (GHF) sponsored an event called "The Old Boys' Day" at which plovers from all over Wisconsin came together to shoot oldTarget Guns dating back to 1892. At this event, GHF displayed some particularly interesting Target Guns from throughout Wisconsin's past including one that had been used as part of a display at state fairs in Dodge City, Kansas! Today, Target Guns remains an important part of Plover's history and is still being used for fun or competition!

Thanks to opening up new land to agriculture, Plover grew rapidly over the next several decades until it reached its peak population size in 1920 with 10,000 people living in 248 homes. However, during World War II (1939-1945), Plover saw some significant changes as many local families rallied around their military service efforts. With men serving in all branches of military including Coast Guard duty at sea and on land; women auxiliaries such as cooks; mothers taking care of children while their fathers were away fighting; businesses like grocery stores supplying food for troops stationed nearby; post office customers being shipped items like gasoline or ammunition across state lines; and two airfields providing support for aircraft flying into or out of Post Falls – everything came together to create an extremely wartime environment that impacted everyday life deeply both inside and outside the community. Afterward, although there were some lingering effects from war-time hardships such as low crop production due to lack of attention from government planners - overall plovers bounced back quickly with growing businesses, more jobs available after World War II (including at Boeing Airplanes), more typical family values emerging among postwar generations - growth slowed again beginning in The 1970s when technological advances made it easier for remote communities likeplovers to connect with each other through satellite TV/Internet services etc., but not so much with changing lifestyles outside those technologies affecting how people here lived themselves – instead lifestyle changes within technology settings impacting social isolation which then caused strains within society itself leading eventuallyto decline even further culminating today where there are only about 4K inhabitants remaining within this rural town limits according to latest US Census figures

Plover is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, named for the common plover, Plegia cinerea. Plover was founded in 1843 by John Fonda and his brother-in-law, Nathan Sibley, and was first settled by English colonists. The town was chartered on November 8, 1843. It was located on the Fox River between Walworth and Menomonee counties. The first post office in Plover was established in 1845, and remained open until it closed on October 15, 1904. The first settler to move into what is now Plover Township was Levi Holland on July 1, 1838. He built a small log cabin near where he currently stands known as "Holland's Store." In 1840, James Denton moved from Green Bay to take up land grant offered him by the United States government for his home territory of Racine County which included present day Menomonee County and parts of Milwaukee County and Dane County. On December 22nd of that year Denton sent out a survey plat for an area that would eventually become Plovershire including most of what is now northcentral Wisconsin including present day Menomonee County as well as east central Milwaukee County
In 1851, a group of settlers from Ohio named John James Plover arrived in the town of Plover on the north shore of Lake Michigan. They had come to build a store andsettlement on the same land that later became Milwaukee. The first post office was established in Plover in 1854. In 1861, the town was renamed Milwaukee after General John J. Brown's army fought at the Battle of Gettysburg.
