John's older brother PFC Walt died during action on September 11th 2001 when his C-130 cargo plane crashed into Walker Lake about 35 miles east of Minneapolis Minnesota en route to pick up troops supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom™

When they got there, the group found that the area was full of wetlands and had no available land to build their homes on. So they started building huts from logs that they found lying around. One member of the party, John Davenport, decided to name the town after his own home state of Vermont. The first structure in town was built by Davenport and his friends Isaac Morse and Nathan Phillips. It was called the "Morse House." Over time, more buildings were built including a school, a post office, and a jail. Some people in Plover started having trouble with all of these new structures being built so close to each other. They wanted something more imposing or isolated from everyone else. So they organized a protest against the town's founding members back in 1839. This led to some physical skirmishes between the settlers and plovers over who could build which structures first etc., but eventually things calmed down."
